It's mostly scare tactics, and it's not illegal if you just use it for non-illegal content ofcourse. ;)

Mostly for music, since I don't think I'm able to find and buy stuff that I like.
Also for games, not all though. :(

Torrents are the main source of everything for me. I use them each day, each hour, each minute. Even now.

Torrentz are your friends. Friends are good. They understand you. They are kind. They can give you anything.

Nah, a good newsgroup can give you permanent 5-10 mb / sec downloadspeed on high quality content. But torrents are good anyway, if you are in a small closed community or download content from social people that actually seed.

On a sidenote, if you really like a game it's always good to buy it if the producers are good. Some producers really do deserve to have their game bought. :)

EA craps out new game after game, buying out smaller companies, but when a team really works on a game with heart and soul they deserve to get the money IMO. :P

In theory they can. But as far as I know no-one cares if you randomly download something. But if you share rate is high, which means that you share a lot of files and I really mean A LOT, the case is different.

just put your upload rate to the lowest possible and your safe. also at least in the Netherlands, Downloading is officially legal, uploading however is not. that's kinda what makes Direct Downloads more attractive than peer-to-peer torrents. But I don't think they'll really find out unless you download WAAAY TOO MUCH. I don't even use my torrent loader much. every now and then for an anime episode, or to get an unfindable game ;)

tl;dr
don't download too much, and your safe

also just go with utorrent.

You're safe but you kill torrent communities. Torrents are built on sharing what you download, if noone uploads you get the < 5kb / sec download rates people already have now, not to mention without seeders torrents die. It's selfish. But you're safe.

yeah that's true. I never really bother thinking about cus I shut down my loader as soon as I'm done. I just did a system format, i'll just put the barrier on 20kb this time :P

If you are careless and go to random torrent sites. (Though if I'm desperate I do that) The RIAA actually set up their own site to catch people downloading um...I believe it was Battlestar Galactica. The site is probably down now, it was awhile ago. You should be fine if you go to trusted torrent sites. If you'd like a list of secure sites you can pm me and I'll give you 4 links, otherwise I don't think it's appropriate to post publicly.

;d

If you're going to do something illegal on the internet, there is always a chance you're going to get caught and it doesn't matter where or how you download things. Public torrenting mostly relies on trusting peers on sites if torrents are "clean" or not, that is, checking to see if the torrent isn't being tracked by the RIAA or something, so always read comments on public torrent sites before you download anything. Private torrent sites are usually much "safer" in terms that they do not allow anyone other than their own community to download the content and you're usually "interviewed" before you join these sites. Anyway, you should get more information before you start doing anything, especially port-forwarding, so you'll have an easier time while setting up the torrent client.
