Published: September 12, 2009 Serena Williams became unhinged in a shocking display of vitriol and profanity toward a line judge at the most inopportune time Saturday night — right before match point for Kim Clijsters in the semifinals of the United States Open.
In a matter of confusing minutes, Williams turned what had been a scintillating women’s match into an ugly and improbable spectacle that gave Clijsters, an unseeded wild-card entry making a joyful return to Grand Slam tennis, a 6-4, 7-5 victory she could not even celebrate. Clijsters, a 26-year-old from Belgium who is the mother of a toddler, had frustrated and dominated Williams all night. After Clijsters won the first set, Williams slammed her racket to the court twice, mangling the frame in disgust. She walked to her chair, whacking the net with her racket on the way, and earned a warning for racket abuse.
Clijsters stayed composed. She had a 6-5 lead in the second set, and Williams was serving to send the set into a tiebreaker. At 15-30, a lineswoman called Williams for a foot fault on her second serve. Williams argued angrily, then walked back to the baseline. But she could not let it rest. She approached the judge and appeared to threaten her, shaking a ball in her face, according to reporters courtside and television replays.
Stupid asian Even though Williams probably shouldn't have cussed her out

Like ƒuck I'll be pissed too, and of course because she's a star, the media takes it up a notch
Yeah, but she is not home cussing at her cat She could have kept it inside until its over at least ffs
I would say the same thing but it's easy to say it from here.
loosing concentration, making 4 mistakes on top of each other can cause a star's career.
Seriously, as much as skill is important in an athlete's career, so is psychology. Morale is extremely important.
Exactly, she's just as susceptible to anger as anyone else. Its not like she does this stuff all the time either. The no class comment was a bit much. Personally i think this whole affair has been blown out of proportion. Should have have controlled her anger better yes, but she's only human, not like she got violent with anyone. Athletes have had much worse outburst in sports....

Ok fine the no class thing is way much, but still she is not the only one in history who made mistakes that could ruin her career. Bu still those people didn't throw balls or shoes at the judges.
jeez the comments on that video are ridiculous. I mean youtube commenters are second only to IMDB commenters but those people are just acting awful as if saying those types of things if any better than what serena did. Apparently MacEnroe used to do the same kind of things and nobody acted like this...
Yeah, the line judge was kinda stupid. But heck , there was no reason to do what Serena did. ok, maybe she was pissed because she was losing the match... but man, she's the #1 in females. I don't think Roger Federer would do such a thing like she did, btw.
"I swear to God I'll Farking take this ball and shove it down your Farking throat! Do you hear me? I swear to God. You better be glad--you better be Farking glad that I'm not, I swear."
This was enough to give Serena her second warning. Wich means a point penalty Serena was match point down so the match goes to Kim
Dumb mistake on the judge. Although I can see why she's so Farking pissed. It was a bad call and she knew it. It was at match point and was a very crucial point in the game. The difference between this and McEnroe's outburst is I don't remember him threatening to kill anyone. Although his careers had a lot more outbursts that Serena's. Honestly they should've just fined her and get a new ref and restart that point imo. Semi-finals and match point is way too important to be won by a penalty like this. Serena was doing bad, so that only added to her anger and frustration.
