FORGET romance, fellas - a saucy new book suggests women romp for far more mundane reasons.

From relieving boredom to bargaining over household chores, Why Women Have Sex explodes the myths surrounding why females get frisky.

Surprisingly, authors Cindy Meston and David Buss found passion and sexual attraction were fairly low down on our list.

"Research has shown that most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," say the authors, both professors at the University of Texas.

So with fancying the pants off a bloke out the window - why else would we hop into bed?

How about pity? One woman interviewed for the book said: "I slept with a couple of guys because I felt sorry for them."

84 per cent admitted sex ensured a quiet life at home. One woman explained: "I have sex to relieve the boredom - because it's easier than fighting."

Others confessed they did it to improve their sexual performance or because they felt they owed a date something for extravagant gifts or meals.

In fact, in one survey of students carried out by researchers, nearly one in ten women admitted to "having sex for presents".

But the results weren't all bad. One of the 1,000 women surveyed said sex was like a spiritual experience: "It's the closest thing to God."

While others cooed over the health benefits of bedroom olympics, claiming sex cures migraines and stress headaches.

Whatever happened to good old-fashioned pleasure, girls?

what I believe, this book was written by a guy that hates women.. and he's probably ugly, thinking of #8 in the list
