I suggest Vista 64bit with service pack 1. Works great on mine.

smartest would probably be to use windows 7, it's more stable than vista and apparantly has full support for everything that was on XP.

also just a warning. keep an eye on your RAM. everything we've ever bought from Samsung turned out to be crap. right now everyon is watching a tv with a huge dark spot on the left made out of semi-dead pixels.

Stability - ok, no problems with it
Drivers - ok, no problems with them
Compatibility - ok, no issued with it
Performance - tested on XP and Vista, no difference between the two for this build

what about my ram? where the **** did all that go, oh wait i installed vista thats where its gone, ofc you can turn all the fancy shit off by which point you just got a phunky looking xp where you cant find half the setting because apprently trying to make it idiot proof just fucks all those who have been using windows for years

dx10 only has like 1/2 games that need it to work rest work fine on dx9

there is absolutelly no reason why you should get vista

not to mention xp is more stable then vista, just because you have no problems with vista dont mean its any where as stable as xp

if you give me one good reason why i should use vista il drop my arguement, but xp is a better os albiet older but stil better

meh, i got vista 64bit with 4gb ram, there is almost no way in hell you are able to slow it down, it's really fast and never crashes, never had compatibility problems yet, drivers are easy to find and it has some good features which i kinda miss in XP.

As for the most annoying feature about Vista, the UAC, you can just turn it off :) no more having to choose run as administrator and "are you sure you want to run this program" "are you really really sure?"

Windows 7 and/or Kubuntu.

Linux OS (such as redhat, suse, ubuntu) is free and more stable than Windows, but the problem is it doesn't support a lot of programs (such as games, photoshop, etc.). Though for most programs there's a good surrogate, except for games.

If you want to play Aion you'll need a Windows.

Plus ever since I started using the Aero appearance stuff I get to press a button and all my screens go in a cool row. How did I ever get by without that?
*Pressing it again, can't help myself!*

Or go Ubuntu only. No dual boot. Ubuntu for day to day use and productivity. Wine (under Ubuntu) for gaming and windows-only apps. Not all games will work, but check http://appdb.winehq.org for compatibility. Aion is "garbage" on their appdb, but it's quite a new game. I'm sure it will be better supported in the future in wine. Wine does support other games like SRO and WoW for example.

 Ubuntu

Windows 7 runs faster
Windows 7 uses less RAM
Windows 7 is less intrusive
Windows 7 adapts to older programs better
Windows 7 looks better

My friends go to tech schools. They've replaced ALL vista OS on all computers on campus with Windows 7 and gave all the students a free upgrade because of how much better it is. Its clearly much better than vista in every possible way and even if you think its just a service pack its an essential service pack. Have i ever had problems with Vista, none that i can think of. Will i upgrade to 7, i'd be a fool not too. Despite not having problems with vista it the OS was flawed in several ways and everybody knows it. Windows 7 is what Vista should've been, simple as that. Theres no use sticking with the "beta" when you can get the final release.
