District 9 is one of the best movies I've seen for awhile, since The Dark Knight. It kind of reminds me of a Half-Life 2 story-line but in reverse. The effects of this movie are amazing as well. Though there are some parts that are pretty F****ed up. I also find it pretty original too. So tell me what you guys think about it. BTW the robot part towards the end was really cool, reminded me of dog of half-life 2 lol.
Originality - 4/5
Special FX - 5/5
Storyline - 4/5
Acting - 4/5
Overall 5/5
I say this is a must-watch movie!

I loved the movie, but some scenes were predictable. I'll give it a 9/10, and it had a nice twisted ending.

It was a great movie, and i would see it again .. But they didnt stay in the same person if you get what i mean. at times they were intervieweing people, others they were with the characters.
Still a 10 outta 10 from me

wtf, no way is it a 10/10.
Too predictable, too preachy. 6/10 maybe.
I swear, there has been another story along these same lines. Guy hates blacks, guy becomes black, then understands and repents and becomes good guy. w/e

no..the main character doesnt necessarily hate the aliens its just his job. But 6/10 is harsh unless your just being cynical. It was very well made and the storyline racked your brains

Problem is that sequels are often worse than the first movie.

Racked my brains? More like "duh, this is how people act". Predictable with very few exceptions. Like the black fluid in the container - yeah, my GF leaned over and said "now you know, he's going to become one of them".
And of course when he finally started thinking of the aliens instead of himself. Well, yeah.
Yes, hate might be a strong word. No matter what, it was pretty obvious what would happen. 7/10 would be as far as I'd go.
As for cynical that's me, alright. People are jerks for the most part.

He didn't think of the aliens until he got into the transformer suit thing. Up until he crashed the space ship he was only thinking of ways to turn himself back.

what are you talking about the audience had no idea what the black fluid did whatsoever until he got to the hospital and they opened his covered arm to find that its all alien. And yeah like blindfire said, the guy didn't even want to save the aliens..everything he did until the last part of the movie was only about becoming normal again and going back to his wife.

The clueless audience? As I said, my GF and I thought that would happen...

well then maybe your just good at predicting things. A tube filled with black liquid that changes you into an alien is just one of thousands of possibilities anyone could think of. Just because you think your so great at guessing the plot right doesn't make the movie predictable or preachy.

You're right. It just makes it predictable and preachy to me, which is the whole point of having an opinion and rating a movie.

District 9 bears a lot of similarities to Star Wars. Similar budgets, no-name actors, original story, and so on. It may not be the best science fiction movie ever, but its positive reception proves that you don't have to aim your sci-fi movie at man-children to be successful, and for that it will be remembered.

Originality would definitely be 5/5 and nothing below that. And I don't how if they would be able to pull of a good sequel.

They might be able to do a sequel three years into the future when the alien that left with the ship comes back like he promised.
