Odd fears

Hey everyone, this is a mystery that has plagued my thoughts for quite a long time. Fears. Yes, but not fears of heights, needles, and the like... I'm talking about the odd kinds of fears. Let me say from now, I am not trying to ridicule or make fun of anyone, I am simply curious about the subject.
Anyway, to some extent I can understand fears of blades and needles for example, because of traumatic experiences from a persons childhood or something of the sort. However, I simply cant understand how anyone can be afraid (and not simply disgusted) of bananas, olives, balloons, cheese, peaches, pickles, etc, to the point where they can't even be in the same room if they know that particular thing they fear is there.
Anybody have any idea where these fears come from? Moreover, why do they actually have these fears? I simply can't understand the fear of an inanimate object. Can anyone shed some light on this? Feel free to throw in some examples you know of or have had experiences with.

Fear is a personal thing..
For some reason, I'm kinda affraid of people with down syndrome and the real deal of "retarded" people.
why people fear something comes from, how you said it, something that may have happened when they were young.
for instance: claustrophobia, if you were once trapped in a small place, or something like crowded places, which may have occured when you were younger and on a big open place with thousands of strangers, you lost your mommy.
bananas, olives, balloons, cheese, peaches and pickles may have came from when they almost choked on one, or thanks to our great modern culture which tells us that you can get cancer, aids and stds from anything these days.

I'm afraid of opened doors, every single time I enter or leave a room I will definitely close the door. When I was little I always had dreams about me going to sleep at night and accidentally leaving the door open, that same night some hooded guy would enter my room and take me away, then I would wake up.

Friend of mine is terrified of cheese, really terrified. Someone thought being funny and threw some cheese in his face. He beat the crap out of that guy.

I think fear is somewhat equal to something you don't know what it is. Why are people scared of aliens? Because they don't know what they are/they don't know if they excist.
also, when someone talks about a scary video for example, I don't watn to watch it, because it will scare me, but out of curiousity I will watch it =(

Fear isn't that new. We have most of our fear from our ancestors. Back then fear was the factor which decided about dead and life. But as we evolved this fear became more or less useless, but it's still present.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Abuse maybe. Like if you abuse a child with a banana, they might fear of one, of getting struck. Well maybe, I dont know.

Same, but it isn't a huge fear where I'll run screaming for the hills if I find a tick. It'll just creep me out a bit.

Commercial Flying. I can do small prop planes and helicopters just fine, but commercial flying in a jumbo jet rattles my nerves. Go figure; I'll jump out of a plane any day to skydive, but commercial flying is a no-go.

Im afraid of wasps and spiders. Everything else im fine with.
One time a wasp flew in my window so i left the room as quick as i could... I kicked my desk, chair flew backwards and i went straight out the door, stood up and walked downstairs. It was one of those moments you wish somebody would of seen you do, because it was pretty impressive.
