same concept as your regular non-calculator multiplication method, just more graphical rather than staring numbers in the face.

Crunching numbers isn't math.

What happened to

 2754
x 320
  0000
 55080
826200
881280

?????????? I guess I don't see how the other could be easier lol, but I admit, it's interesting.

trying to draw a series of 9 parallel lines in limited space can be quite difficult.

Same concept when using your fingers to multiply...only with more "fingers"

it becomes less handy if you do stuff like 29x29 though, coz a 9 will cross an other 9.
will be lots off dots to count ( with high numbers overall).

Its still pretty nice though, i showed it to my little sister, shes kind of bad at stuff like this so it might actualy help her a bit ;)

god I really suck at math...

cuz I don't understand shit of it even after those two examples...

I'll just use the old method of

1234
5678
_____×
15412

I have no idea if that's correct. look at how my math sucks. it's a miracle I can count to 10.

I don't use any finger tricks myself, but I was taught an interesting one for multiplying by 9 (at least for small numbers). I don't know if this at all relates to the OP in this thread because the video is blocked for me.

Hold up 10 fingers. Mentally number them left-to-right 1-10. Whatever number you're multiplying by 9, lower that finger. The rest of the fingers give you the answer.

Ex: 9x5: Put up 10 fingers, lower your left thumb. You have 4 fingers raised on left hand, 5 on right. 9x5=45.

i don't think my girlfriend multiplies like that. she just does it all in her head. she puts me to shame and i use math on a regular basis at work :(

besides everyone has a cellphone and they prob have a calculator app on them. no one really needs to know math anymore.

Wouldnt that suck if it was 189 x 789

189 * 789 = x
(180 + 9) * (780 + 9) = x
3(60 + 3) * 3(260 + 3) = x
3(3(20 + 1)) * 3((65 * 4) + 3) = x
3(3(21)) * 3(((13 * 5) * 4) + 3) = x
3(3(3(7))) * 3((((12 + 1) * 5) * 4) + 3) = x
3(3(3(6 + 1))) * 3(((((3 * 4) + 1) * 5) * 4) + 3) = x
27(6 + 1) * 3((((3 * 4) + 1) * 20) + 3) = x
(162 + 27) * 3(((20(3 * 4) + (1*20))) + 3) = x
189 * 3((20 * 3 * 4) + 20) + 3) = x
189 * 3(240 + 20) + 3) = x
189 * 3(260 + 3) = x
189 * (780 + 9) = x
189 * 789 = x

And OBVIOUSLY 189 * 789 = 149,121. No wonder it takes me so long to do math!

The trick we were learned was a lot easier. You add one number with 1 and you deduct the other with 1 as well.
18 -> 27
1+1=2
8-1=7

2+1=3
7-1=6

etc etc
Or at least I think it's easier.

A bit OT but is there a word describing these kind of tricks? In Dutch we call them 'Ezelsbruggetjes', literally translated: 'donkey bridges'.
