Michael Schumacher, the seven-time world Formula One champion, is set to make a sensational return to the sport as a replacement for the injured Felipe Massa.

Schumacher, who won five of those titles with Ferrari, will stand in for the Brazilian at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23 and will drive Massa's car until he is fit to return.

"Though it is true that the Formula One chapter has long been closed for me, it is also true that for team loyalty reasons I cannot ignore that unfortunate situation," Schumacher said. “But as the competitor I am, I also very much look forward to facing this challenge.”

DAMMMMM F1 IS ALIVE AGAIN!!!!!!!! cant wait

I'll never comprehend the enjoyment people get from watching car races.

This. Everytime I see a race on TV, its just 30 cars going around and around and around a big track. And at the top it says that there are 45 laps left. I mean wtf? You pay tickets to watch 30 cars make 45 laps?

I always thought that too lol, I figured maybe if it was more like a long winding wider path or something, but it looks basically like each car starts at a position, then simply tries to pass the others while going around and around.

thing is, you can say that for all sports.

some like to watch bikers race for 4,5 hrs. tour de france.
some like to watch a tennis ball go from one side of the
field to the other.
some like to watch people running behind a soccer ball for
90 minutes.
etc.

i'm not that fond of car races (i like the bikes more because
it's easier to overtake someone and makes it more interesting
for me to watch), but it's fun to see if schumacher still has
it.

I knew someone was going to say that. Right, you can say something cynical for just about any sport in the world. Like "soccer is where 22 people chase a ball for an hour" or "basketball is where you try to put a ball in a hoop, whoop-de-doo". But name one sport that is actually repetitive like car racing. Thats right, theres none. Car racing is literally going around a track a 100 times and its one thing I really don't understand why people watch.

Tennis is a sport where a ball goes up and down the net a few hundred times a match . This is the same as arguing over music or colours or other things that are opinion based

Because a car might crash, Jstar. Because the driver may die, Jstar. Because there are real risk involved, Jstar. And people anticipate a certain degree of danger when watching the cars go in a circle >9000 times.

Some people think its sad for people to enjoy looking at a computer screen for hours.

Who are you to judge?

I do that for every sport basically. I don't have the attention span to sit and watch a sport for 1+ hours.

Yup.

I hate football and baseball season though.

They cancel the regular new episodes of the Simpsons =(.

Exactly frankaslt1,
you can all say what you want, but Schumi made F1 so exciting, like the Ferrari boss said, there on this moment nobody that even comes close to the performance of Schummacher, i hope its true, can't wait see him on track 8)

I found ti quite boring to see schumacher win every race after race after race. Now, there are around 6 drivers who have a good chance of winning each race.

I would love it so much if he was completely outclassed now.

I agree. I started to like F1 when I started to watch him at it. :P
Ferrari, Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa (brazilian :3) ftw.

Shoe maker is basically the translation of his name. I think it's more like Shuu-mach-er. With a ch like it's from 'mach' as in mach speed.
There's no K in the pronunciation of his name, I'm sure he gets called Shoe-Macker during English broadcasts, but that's because people who speak English mostly have a hard time pronouncing a hard G. 'Ch' can be pronounced as a G in German.
Anyways, Shoe-Macker is probably what he will always be called by you lazy people, The Hague is still not just Den Haag for you either :(

Lol I'd watch it during the final 3 laps or the start maybe but I'd seriously get bored out of my fucking mind if I try to watch the entire race - it's the same reason I can't watch NASCAR.
