diagnose my car problems

When I turned the key it didn't make a noise or make any vibrations and the yellow service engine soon light turned on. I turned the key again and it started normally (the yellow light still stayed on). For the past couple weeks my car has acted strangely when I first started it (sluggish to start moving forward after the car was first turned on but it ran fine after a little while). I don't think its important but I will note that my car doesn't have a mud guard because it was removed when I drove into a fence a while back.

any ideas what is wrong?

I had my battery checks about a month ago and they said it was strong. My car's battery is at least 3 years old though and the guy that checked it didn't seem to know what he was doing.

Im guessing you don't have a charger to check your battery..

Try unhooking your battery cables for an hr or two. This will sort of "clear" the ecu.. and perhaps clear your problem. Probably not, but it's pretty much the only thing you can try yourself..

Other than that take it to a shop. You don't want to be running around with a major problem in your engine that could cause more damage as time goes on.

If you had a little more car knowledge I'd suggest checking oil, belts, timing chain (dep on car), fuses, other fluids, coolant, run some seafoam, plugs, etc etc etc. Easier to see a mechanic if ya don't know what you're doing.

I took my car to the garage today and the problem was fixed within 20 minutes. A spark plug was loose causing it to misfire.

I win, I win.

Good thing it was something simple.
