BUILD IN PROGRESS: NEW GAMING RIG

Hello SRF!

I ordered the parts for my new rig the other day, and they will be coming in on tuesday, or wednesday at the very latest.

Just thought I'd post it here and update this topic as I go along with unboxing/building/tweaking and see what people think.

this following image is a picture off the internet. But mine will look the same (Plus additional red LED fans to make it look nicely mixed).

CASE
Antec Nine Hundred TWO Black
Image

My epic drawing of how this case works :P
Image

The antec nine hundred

So, fan #1 and 2 are Intake fans. They are attached to the bottom 2 HDD cages.
They blow the air through the HDD's into the bottom and the top of the case.
At the bottom, my PSU will suck it in and blow it out the back, also slightly cooling the Graphics cards in the middle of the case.
At the top, my CPU cooler (pointed to blow towards the rear (#4), will blow into #4 & #5.

The white stripes on the HDD cages on the right side.
They have dustfilters between the case and the fans. The HDD cages can move out the front so it's a really cool system, and easy to remove the filters. (They are just 2 fishnet kind of racks that slide in. Meaning the only 2 intake fans, thus the only ones that will suck in dust, won't :D

MOBO
ASUS P6T DELUXE V2
CPU
Intel I7 920 OC to 4.0 GHz
CPUFAN
Scythe Mugen II
RAM
OCZ 6GB 3x2GB DDR3 1600 MHz
GFX
2x Club3D ATI Radeon HD 4890's OC edition in crossfire
PSU
Corsair HX750W
STOR
1x OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD for windows and a few games
2x Western Digital Black Caviar 640GB 7.2k RPM 32MB Cache
SOUND
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer (pci)

Note that newegg doesn't sell the Club3D cards.
I've ordered from a dutch hardware shop, other european shops do sell the Club3D cards.
I've made the list in Newegg since it's the biggest with best reviews etc.

A cheap dvd+-RW drive and Arctic Silver thermal paste.
2 red Cathodes (neon) to mix nicely with the blue LED case fans.
2 Red case fans that will fit really nicely with the other blue LEDs in the case.
Just finished making the Windows 7 RC boot dvd which I'll be putting on my new computer when I finish building it. When Windows 7 officially launches (oktober 22nd) I will buy a full copy of the ultimate edition.

This will be the first system that I build myself.
Next month I'll be adding some detailed stuff to it.
A sound system in my room, and a new monitor (currently using a 22" widescreen by LG)
I will most likely buy the Samsung Syncmaster 27" FULL HD monitor.

Total price so far: $2100, or €1600

Discuss :D

I'd hate the case lighting only cause my PC is in my room and it'd be a pain in the ass trying to sleep with that kind of thing on.

It's in the specs.

Scythe Mugen 2.

Image

One of the best coolers on the market today.

I actually ordered a red LED fan for that. (It will be fitted on the right side next to the RAM so it blows air right into the exhaust fan of the case).

And note that the case I posted isn't mine, it's just a picture of it running.

The one I put there now (edited) looks more like it.

I'll be having 2 red neon tubes in the right and bottom of the see through panel.

love it, i am doing a very similar build in the not so far future. only thing i would change is gpu, with current pricing i would prob select a gtx 275 over those 4890s oc edition ( specially oc edition ).

on another note that is my fav case bar none, pics of the inside wouldnt hurt :). btw 4.0 Ghz is overkill lol, no need to punish your cpu that way. tone it down to 3.2-3.6 and you will still have monster performance, just that you'll get better temps and use less energy doing it.

Heh I'd spend $2k on a rifle before I spent it on a computer.

Very nice setup. With that GPU setup what games will you be playing? (It will play any game out there, just wondering which ones you fancy)

Watercool it NAO!! With some UV dye in the tubes it would look bangin. You've already spent $2100, go all out. :P

Got my c2d running 4ghz, but on water.

Good job. Nothing better than building your first and watching it run. Hopefully you stick with it, is definitely fun. Personally been building for 6 years...it relaxes me.

sik pc...but mad overpriced, too much for my taste, i usually go for ~1000 when getting a new pc. But hey..if i had mad money, then i would get a system like that. What speed was the processor at prior to oc?

LOL! are you serious? you would buy that $1000 CPU when you could just overclock a 920? save money on CPU and buy a better graphics card, like a gtx 285 or 295 if you have the money?

as for your rig [SD]Twysta, very nice indeed! but i would hate having that tower, my room would look and sound like an airport lol.
