is there a difference - pronunciation wise - between "elle cuisine" and "elles cuisinent"?

i cant differ the two in pronunciation

"S" in elles is silent I believe
And Cuisent the ent sounds like "ant" or "a" I don't remember.

Can someone verify that?

cuisinent is the same as the first except the ending is pronounced like aunt (that is assuming you dont pronounce that like 'ant')

Nope lol, you dont say cuisin-aunt.

The "s" is silent unless the verb begins with a vowel. The difference in the pronunciation of the end. It isn't "aunt" it it is just where you place the emphasis.

cuisine au pluriel is cuisinent

So esentially, the "ent" at the end is like an "s", and you don't pronounce it. Which is hard for a lot of people because there are words in french that end in ent where you would pronounce it (escarpement), but not in the case for plural verbs in the third person.

So all the English speakers are going "wtf, if it's pronounced the same, how do they know what he's talking about then". In practice, it's a lot simpler.

I would only use elles cuisinent if I were talking to you and elles was already defined. For instance, you ask me what my sisters are doing, I say "elles cuisinent". If I wanted to tell you that they are cuisining but you have no idea who I am talking about, I would rather say "mes soeurs cuisinent" (my sisters cuisinent).

"elles cuisinent" in "subjonctif" form:

that they had "cuisine"'d

notes: What's important to pick up from this is that you cannot translate everything. You have to modify phrases and not directly translate them or they lose their message. The first line, directly translated, would be "the subjonctif is more at the fashion", but that isn't what I mean.

And the "that they had cuisined" makes no sense in English and there exists no real translation.

generally when someone says "a la mode" and it's not an ice cream i just take what they said before that is "the vogue".

but yea, literal translations are bogus most of the time. i've read some literal translations of english into chinese and chinese into english and it's hilarious.

which sucks though, 3 years of french and i suck =[

so what is the general meaning of "qu'elles aient cuisiné"

is it saying "they ate", or something close to it?

When you hear "they're camping" you know it's they're because it is gramatically correct: same thing with not, knot; too, two; and butt, but.

When you hear "elles chantent" you have no idea of knowing whether it's "elle" or "elles". It's different.

It would be closer to having her and they being the same word, and the conjugated verb sounding identical.

can we get a conclusion here? "elle cuisine" and "elles cuisinent" is there a difference in pronunciation?

Means : Im fine and you?
