Stiches?

I've never had them. Or been to the emergency room. Last night i was running into my friends car and my friend decided to shut the door only his fat slow arms couldn't move fast enough so i got a body full of the nice dull blade like part of the door. My head was fine thanks to a protective layer of dreads. My leg did not fair so well. I've built up a high tolerance to pain over the years for various reasons so when i felt some pain on my leg i assumed it was just some minor bump. This was not the case and by the time i decided to survey the damage there was a nice trickle of blood that was getting soaked up by my sock. Nothing horrendous but suffice to say that when i squeezed the part of the sock that had been absorbing my blood it pretty much poured out. Again i wasn't too worried and i let it bleed some more but then it wouldn't stop so i asked my friend for some band-aids. It just bleed through them all and kept trickling.
Again, still not worried, its only a flesh wound. So i get back to where i live. Apply alcohol, peroxide, and a larger bandaid. I get some sleep and wake up and its still pretty much bleeding. Less than before otherwise it would've looked like i was on the rag but still more than i would've liked to see. No i don't have health insurance and the gash is at least half a centimeter into the the lower half of my leg, maybe more. Its not that wide and i know it won't heal overnight so i put some neosporin on it and added another band-aid. You don't think i'll need stitches for this do you? Oh yeah and my parents used to tell me not to put band-aids on cuts after a bit, something about letting them breath, is there any truth to this cause my dad was the kind of person who would rub salt in the wound if it would help regardless of the pain it caused me.
tl:dr
well you're a lazy bum but basically i've got a small gash on my leg that hasn't stopped bleeding since i got it about 24 hours ago, does that type of damage require stitches?

Well, if its a deep cut u shud get stitches or else u'll keep bleeding for a few days.
If its a wound in the first or 2nd layer in ur skin its not that bad i guess.
U shud be able to see for urself if you're wound will heal with or w/o band-aid.
A high risk u got now too is an infection. U best shud avoid that or u'd end up going to hospital and pay even more if you do not hav an health insurance.
Maybe buy soome things that can pull the skin together, i dunno the english name for it but they're called 'zwaluws' in dutch. They usually put them on the wound after stitches are taken off and the skin is beginning to tear open again. This way u can pull ur skin together w/o having stitches.
EDIT: Hope u understand it even tho i got crappy english. lol

I think you should worry about how much blood you've lost

If it hasn't stopped bleeding since, then yes go get stitches. I had some on my chin from skating before, it doesn't hurt that much since they'll most likely freeze the wound so you dont feel anything when they're giving you stitches

Be hardcore and burn the cut ´till it stops bleeding.

Well I would have gone to the emergency room if it was bleeding that much but I think it's too late to get stitches now? Have to get them within 12hours of the cut...learned that myself the hard way when I was kid. Now I have a 2-3 inch scare on my back.
Best thing to do now is keep it clean and bandage it up well.

i don't mind scars. When i was younger i did something wrong and ended up hitting my knee on this thing that left a huge gash, the cut was so meaty but it didn't bleed alot. It looks like i just got bit by something and it took a small chunk out. Anyway when it healed it left a really smooth scar and i guess i destroyed alot of nerves cause the area is pretty numb, if it get hits or damaged i normally don't notice until after it heals...
in case you can't tell im accident prone, i've tripped while standing still several times @_@...

Try to find something like
Steri-Strips to pull the cut closed. It isn't stitches but it will close the cut.

There's a sterile - STERILE - way to clean wounds. But in your cause, I really don't see any need for it. I would suggest using alcohol to clean the surrounding area since it basically burns everything and Betadine for the wound itself (or betadine for everything works too) - clean the wound area first, then the surrounding area - going further from the wound. Get yourself some gauze - if you don't have the actual pad they apply for the wound, a 2-layer gauze would do. Tape it and you should be fine. Once you start seeing those spots that look like dots, that means the wound is starting to heal.
Change the dressing twice a day - after shower (try not to get it wet btw) and when you get home in the afternoon or nighttime.
edit: the suggestion above my post to use Steri-strip is a good idea but you'll still need to clean it and apply proper dressing. If you're going to use them, change the steri-strip along with the dressing and try to limit your contact with the inside of cut itself.
Warning: Do not use betadine if you're allergic to shellfish - it means you're allergic to iodine.

Perhaps you should of put pressure on it for awhile, I think that would of been best. Peroxide makes your wounds bubble and look like viral infections X_X You're not still bleeding are you? Hope you're ok.

When I had steri-strips after my appendix ruptured and they had to suction my abdominal cavity I was told not to take them off and they would come off by themselves.

why would you sit there and bleed til you die just because you're too lazy to go to doctor? sounds like it's pretty serious, might require stitches, especially if the bleeding wont stop

lol never used them but I don't see any reason for him not to change them since the is pretty shallow. Yours on the other hand was well, deep. Do they get all soggy when they get wet though?

packing gunpowder into a wound then lighting it sounds like it would do more harm than good. but yeah, im not cauterizing anything, we;ll stick with band-aids for now...

Not really, they don't really absorb water.

Depending on if it's still bleeding, even after you put a bandaid on; you can always try to put some "Superglue" on it to hold it together.
First put some Neosporin on it, or another type of antibiotic, then apply Superglue, then bandaid.
If you don't want to do that, then go get stitches. Bleeding for that long is most certainly not safe.
(oh, and I just noticed in first post that you put Neosporin and bandaid on it already. If it won't seal, use the superglue).

I wasn't serious you know? I guess burning cuts is used only when you have to stop the bleeding as fast as possible.

Stitches arent bad, the worse thing about it is how they jam a big needle right in the wound, multiple times.. muahahaha.
No really thats the only part that sucked, the rest is watching someone shove a needle in and out of your skin, over and over, but you can't feel it.
I've had em twice, Face and finger, Dog atk and bb gun >.>.
lol the gunpoweder thing, if anyone has seen Feast 3 theres a pretty funny scene about that.

I use that for small cuts lol However it doesn't make it heal so it's pointless.

So how's the wound now? You still alive?

If it's bleeding that long go see a doc, can't be good to bleed that long.
