“Rapelay,” a Japanese video game, was recently pulled from Web sites such as Amazon and eBay, but anti-violence advocates are shocked it’s still available for download elsewhere.
As described on mobygames.com, “Rapelay” players take the role of a pervert who, after an arrest for molestation, sexually assaults the young woman he first attacked, along with her mother and younger sister.
“This is not what you want in the world if you want to end sexual violence,” said Harriet Lessel, executive director of New York Alliance Against Sexual Assault. “Does it talk about the seriousness of rape and how it destroys people’s lives?”
Yesterday, she and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn urged video game distributors to pull the game.
Illusion, the Yokohama-based software company that released “Rapelay” in 2006, states on its Web site that the product isn’t available for sale outside Japan.
At a video game store near City Hall, John Ormiston, 37, was buying “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.” “Rapelay” sounded outlandish, he said, but thought other games weren’t much better. He recently watched a friend’s 12-year-old son play Grand Theft Auto IV: “He killed a cop, stole the cop car, ran over people, saw a woman yelling out, ‘I got crack.’ He jumped out, robbed and beat her, stole the crack and got back in the car.”

Wow...
I really don't like GTA that much, but this just goes beyond that by so much. Horrible.

What if the main character in this game was a female? I can bet that this game would be far more accepted. It would prob be considered a funny game to the majority then. yes?,no?

GTA has shooting ppl in the face with shotguns and killing cops and stuff lol, i'd say thats worse.
The difference is GTA has a story and a point of entertainment, the point of this is the violence and rape, if GTA was a murder simulator it would have the same reaction probably lol.

This is actually really old, about a few months. Been reading about it for awhile on DannyChoo.com. Alot of hentai sites are now restricting foreign buyers for manga as well. I'd play this and I'm a girl. I don't like the whole pregnant/able to get an abortion part of it though, I believe I read that was an option in the game awhile back. I feel that's completely unnecessary. There are already alot of hentais that involve rape, I wonder why this got people's attention.
As for the GTA part, it's nothing compared to other games, like Manhunt, etc. It's always the parents fault. It's always easy to blame the gaming industry for piss poor parenting.
PS - There are a few rape games that involve the girls doing the raping of the guy.

This is a Japanese game. The Japanese are more disciplined and self controlled.
This is like saying a Tamagotchi would help a child learn how to take care of a real pet.

the other scenario is much more likely because why would a rapist take the risk of getting arrested and do all the work of waiting in a park and whatnot when he could just sit at home and fap to a game?
a person who is not someone considering rape as a logical way to get laid would not buy this game and therefore this would not inspire new rapists

I think being able to rip the testicles off of a guy with a pair of pliers in Manhunt 2 is much worse. lol It really isn't any worse than games like Saints Row, Postal, CoD, etc.

I have to confess that while playing Godfather II I felt satisfaction when pressing F to blow a guy's face with a thompson on his mouth.
But if kids get disturbed with games like gta etc. it's the parents fault lol. if my mom checked my pc I would be grounded for years
on topic: that game is weird... maybe fun if not taken to seriously

Because shooting a guy in the head is no big deal right... Setting them on fire... Blowing them to hell with rockets and explosives... Even worse goes on in the parts that you're unable to control...
But my point is it doesn't matter if you're trying to save the day in one game or the violence is more graphic in another. You're still killing something that is suppose to be a representation of a human being. A person who can't differentiate between a video game and the real world shouldn't be playing any game that depicts violence against humans(or maybe violence against anything?) or sexual acts of violence.
