GRE General Test

So I just took a GRE practice test and scored:

780 Q
540 V

I'm beating myself up right now because I hate how my verbal score is. I've been going over the barron's 3500 list and I still score terrible. Are there any tips other than practice/memorize? I'm planning on taking the test in a month's time, before classes begin, so this month I'm going to cram as many words and practice tests in as I can, which basically means practice test everyday.

I can't do anything about my quantitative score. It's always hovering around 800-780. Always stupid mistakes that I know the answer to like the back of my hand. I just have to take my time and double check more.

Please, any tips from anyone who has taken the GRE general tests?

What kind of grad school are you trying to get into?

Ok. So why are you worried about your language score again? Grad schools want you to be rounded, but unless you've got a totally fail GPA from undergrad, you probably only need a 1200-1250 to get in, right? (Unless you're trying to get into a hugely competitive program?) With architecture I think they'd pay more attention to your math score. Also, don't you have to submit an essay or a larger grad application? Your gre is only a piece of what makes a school want to accept you, and usually the personal stuff like your essay, activities, portfolio mean a whole lot more. By all means stress out and kill yourself over the test if that's what you want to do, but I wouldn't worry about it.

I guess. In that case, I recommend the Princeton study guide, it's really well done. BTW, if you buy it from Barnes and Noble keep the receipt, be really nice to the pages, and you can return it for a full refund.
