How ridiculous is this?

$80,000... Per... Song...

Jesus Christ that is absolutely absurd.
Almost everyone I know downloads music or downloads movie/software torrents...
That is just so completely stupid...
I know that one of my friends has over 1,000 songs he's downloaded with Limewire.

The news thing said the jury can charge $150,000 per song, so that would be

$150,000,000+.

I'm sure there's people who have downloaded more than that...

They are ruining the life of one person just so people will get scared and stop downloading illegally...

What do you guys think?

Lame.

If they want to get that much money out of all the people out there who download music...

It's just lame.

Well completely off-topic,

I pronounce it RE-Diculous, so I thought that was how it's spelled.

It's only 1 letter and I'm sure people got the gist of it.

this just pisses me off. the jury, just because they have the power, ruins a woman's life, a MOTHER'S LIFE, and the lives of her four children.

and i have no doubt most of those jurors have downloaded music sometime in their pathetic lives. **** them, if i could i would beat the shit outta them.

however, just to be safe, i have started using playlist.com and pandora for my music needs.

Rediculous.

I can't believe a jury, goes by on such a descision. Half the jury probably downloades music themselves.

Be aware that we're talking about music 'sharing' here. Which is illegal, having the music without providing a way to share isn't.

Well if you wanna pay $10-$20 for a cd or 99 cents per song then that's you, but some of us don't have that kind of money.

Why? The artists themselves aren't getting the bulk of the money.

When i can download a full CD in 10 minutes for FREE, why would i want to go outside and drive for 20 minutes just to be disappointed that the store doesn't have what im looking for, so i spend another 10 minutes going to another store and then having to pay $15

There's also online stores.

Anyways, there's artists in my library that deserve my purchase, others online deserve my effort to get a torrent.

I buy most though, lately.

Same here lol. But I think that in Finland you have to pay 1€ for one song. Don't know how it goes with movies and programs. But thank God in Finland they only arrest ppl who share a LOT. Police doesn't have time to arrest every single downloader.

I think it's time recordlabels understand that profit should come from concerts, merchandising and the likes of it.
Sure it's not nice that the music gets "stolen", but the ability to download is also creating a higher fanbase for bands, increasing ad revenue, marketability of the band and concert income.
If it weren't for youtube/downloading I would have never gotten into contact with my music and the record labels wouldn't got a dime.

It's a retarded move the record labels are already removing content from youtube, they're screwing their selfs over.

Don't blame the jurors. The law is the law, and it's stealing (currently).

As for the "rich judge"...these guys do NOT make nearly the money you think for the services they provide in keeping our society's laws. Sure, some of them are stupid, but not all. Anyway. Personally, he sure should have assessed the minimum fine given the situation, that was still $200k+ which isn't any better.

What's ridiculous is the fine for the stealing. RIAA should go suck on a brick. While I agree they "need" their money to stay afloat, I don't agree with their strongarm tactics at all. Hey, maybe they could come up with some better music than Britney Spears or Demi Levato!

Anyway you'll notice they made settlement offers and she turned them down, which means she either thinks she did not do it, or she is clueless about filesharing. Neither one is an excuse.
