I heard a strange discussion on the radio this morning.

I was driving into work this morning listening to the radio, and the DJs were having a conversation about breast feeding, and what is the appropriate age to stop. They had various listeners calling in to discuss it.
One lady called in claiming to be a lactation consultant and said it is perfectly normal in most parts of the world (outside the USA) for a mother to breast feed her child until he/she is 8 years old. Most callers called in saying she's full of crap.
Another person called in claiming that she was weened off breast milk when she was about 2, but occasionally through the years had some "nini" (name she called her mom's breast) to calm her down when she was stressed. She said she even had some nini when she was 25 just before getting married.
What do you think? Is any of this even remotely normal in other parts of the world? Most people I know stop when they're 1 year old or so.

In sweden it's normal to breastfeed the kid until the age of 1, can be lower but not higher so that girl was full of bullcrap.

Fun topic as long as is not about my own mother xD
OT: family members/people we know in general usually stop breast feeding around the age of 1.

Yeah that's what I was thinking when I heard them talk about it. I think as long as you are old enough to have a memory of breast feeding, you should STOP! You should probably stop before you get to the point of remembering it.
I think I'd be a bit disturbed if I went to pick up my kid from school and saw some other 5th grader nursing.

My two younger sisters breastfed for quite a long time, the older one until she was around 6 and a half years old, basically until she started school, the younger one until she was about 4, and I did for about 2 weeks only apparently. So it varies...

I could be implying they don't love you as much but then again I know close to nothing about you so go figure how seriously you should take that comment.

My mother didn't love me enough for breastfeeding I think my brother, who she thoroughly loved, got breastfeeding for a year.
(I didn't get breastfeeding because I had it combined with just regular milk and the combination gave me severe rash)

Well if i was a married woman who no longer gets sex, i sure would enjoy getting my boobs sucked for 8 years instead of 1 lol.

The woman who sucked her moms tits at 25 to calm down; since it's psychological and just to help her calm down, I wonder if she could suck on -any- tits... like her dads.

The kids who lived across the street from me when I was growing up were breastfed until 6 or 8. The parents, the kids, even their freakin house was CRAZY looking. I was so glad when I moved because the son looked like he could be a serial killer. That's just not normal. A year tops, after that the kids should be eating real food.
