Is that just a joke that my friend told me or its real?
it seems a new core has been relased: Intel Core i7 (Best than Quad Core)

btw, it has something to do with Windows Seven o_O?

weeeeeeeell so it is like a better upgrade of the quad core?

and isn't curious that has the same name version as the new windows os name? :)

Yeah it was released a while ago, and yeah its better than quad-core but its un-necessary

Late last year. Infact i think December or maybe even january. And No i7 isn't the best one out yet, this is http://www.intel.com/products/processor ... y_corei7ex
It's the Extreme Edition. which is more power efficient.

It IS Necessary if you do a lot of video editing and Multi Tasking with a bunch of windows etc. I could actually use one lol. I usually have quite a bit of stuff open and a duo isn't cutting it as much as i thought it would.

Which there is also a note in the development section about a Processor with 8+ Cores.
http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/ ... ations.pdf
here is what's at the bottom
Spoiler!

Yeah it's been out awhile.

8 Cores would be amazing..

Yeah I'm with you..I badly need to upgrade my Duo.. even with it running at 4Ghz I'm starting to overload it, even with 8GB of RAM.. I think I'll give the less resource hungry Windows 7 a try first though.

Get a DVD authoring, a video encoding in VD, vegas going, and other misc music and what not and it gets rough. :P

its a dual threaded quad core so basically its 8 cores. it would be nice if you run tons of programs at once but most programs now days only work with dual cores. quad cores at this point of time is over kill just fyi atleast for normal users. what you could do with a quad core is set 2 cores for the game (1 for older games like sro and the old c&c games) 1 to host a server for the game your playing (if you want too) then 1 for the music. that is probably the reason why quad cores are so amazing for gamers.

Better than Quad-Core but its Overkill imo :banghead:

"points and says he doesn't know what he is talking about" now wheter you need it or not is a different question ( price/performance related ), CPUs are lagging behind GPU's performance these days.

and ya core i7s are the most powerful CPUs out in the market atm but the core i5s are coming with similar performance and a cheaper price tag in the near future.

Just expressed my opinion :) I do know its stronger than QuadCore and I do think its too much for the casual computer of today :) Something rong? :D

Quad core used to be most for Big Enterprises Systems. Now, a lot of users has Quad Cores.
As you stated, yeah, i7 its too much for a casual user.

Well, probably with this new core, the Quad one will lower its price huh :?

Hope so :D I still have a Pentium Dual Core(2.67GHz).... :(
Question: What would be better between a Pentium Dual Core with 2.67GHz and a Core 2 Duo with lets say 1.8GHz-2GHz?Knowing the fact that Pentium Dual Core is an older generation than Core 2 Duo

I might be wrong but: Dual Core 2.67 means 2.67x2 and Core 2 Duo with 1.8 its like 1.8x2(duo)x2 lol

Someone fix me :P

mm dunno but i think u r wrong ,cuz like that dual core would be better than core 2 duo ,and its not ,at least i think xD ,anyway if u got quad ,u don't need upgrade

Exactly my point.Even if Core 2 Duo is a "better" technology,if it has only 1.8 GHz,will it still be better than a Pentium Dual Core with 2.67 GHz

Your next post will be 1000, so gratz :D

Anyways, im thinking getting a Core 2 Duo or a Quad Core (100$+ compared to Core 2 duo).
wich should i get? i mean, good for gaming and good perfomance when executing many task..

i had that question some time ago ,i got the quad ,its pretty good ,core 2 duo was better than quad some time ago only cuz apps didn't support it ,but now they do ,so its better

No that's wrong.

"Core 2" is the name of the architecture (Like "Pentium 4"), the "Duo" part means dual core. There are "Core 2 Duo" and "Core 2 Quad" cpus.

Core 2 is an upgrade of the regular Dual Core, kinda like going from P3 to P4, although not that drastic, it's the same concept. Core 2 is a different architecture than the regular Dual Core.

Both work like this: Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz is 2 cores running at 2Ghz each. Same thing for a regular Dual Core at 2.0Ghz. The Duo performs better than the older Dual Cores. Core 2 also run much much cooler.

So, Core 2 duo its like an Upgrade of the Dual Core? but cooler? :?

then according to this:
ExSoldier wrote:Question: What would be better between a Pentium Dual Core with 2.67GHz and a Core 2 Duo with lets say 1.8GHz-2GHz?Knowing the fact that Pentium Dual Core is an older generation than Core 2 Duo

Wich is better then?

i would have to say the core 2 duo because its more updated compared to the dual core.

Even if "Core 2" is the generation after Pentium D,how does it change the fact that it will be slower :? (if the DualCore was 2,67GHz and Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz)

EDIT: 1000 post, hurray :D Thanks Mirosuke for gratz xD

Because it's not all about the Ghz, the Core2 is a completely different architecture (Internal design). You'll need to look up some benchmarks to see if the 1.8Ghz will outperform the 2.67Ghz Dual Core.

How come so many people say it's overkill? It's not really overkill cause give it 2 years and this will look like the dual core now. Just like a few years ago when the Duo came out it was a massive deal. "OOOOOOOOOOOh SO FAST!!!!!" So I say get the best if you can afford it.

A car may have an amazing engine but square wheels. A car with a shit engine and circular wheels would win the race, right? lol horrible analogy.

It's not just about what core is 'better' either. Some cores outperform other cores in certain things (games, for example). Some are better off running servers (xenon cores) etc etc. Most games are aimed at dual core CPU's but eventually it'll be 4 cores. Depending on your budget..spending that extra $$ may be worth a quad for the future.

All depends on what you need/want etc etc =P

Then i might get a Core 2 duo even it has lower ghz than a Dual core :?
Cause im thinking to buy a new pc probably this week.
I wish one wich i could perform many task without lag.
Executing programs without waiting loong seconds lol

Well I do run DualCore and I can say I never have lagg(and its cheaper than Core 2 Duo cuz its older) :D
