Okay so I'm doing a project on Colombia for my IB class, and I have to prepare food from that country.

As of now, im going to make a "colombian style hotdog" which is basically a hotdog topped with mustard, ketchup, pineapple jam, and chips (Yes, I know there are a lot of variations to it, but ill just top it with chips )

So if you are of Colombian descent and/or know of Colombian food, please halp me
I want to make something simple, with things I have around the house and requires a decent amount of work (less effort than a cake, but more than just microwaving it )

my english is limited when it comes to cook and ingredients.

Columbian friend of mine always makes flan....you can never go wrong with a flan, it's delicious. They sell packaged flan mix in the grocery stores near me. I live in a heavily hispanic area though, not sure about your selection. Otherwise google it.

I've made (coconut) rice and peas, Jamaican recipe though. Easy way, disregarding spices, is to substitute the same amount of coconut milk for water when making white rice, keep an eye on it, add a little water if starts to burn/gets dry.

Well... im peruvian and i know quite a few colombians... if u want me to traslate something or get you any kind of recipe or so just tell me.

Making cake takes effort?

It depends on the kind of cake but I have recipes of chocolate cakes that need 10'ish minutes to prep things and followed by 18 minutes of oven time while you can do something else.

Awesome that your doing a project on my country for IB, i wish i could do that when i was in IB. What subject is this for?

Let's see, an easy thing for you to make could be something we call Patacones.

There are 2 ways in which you can make them.

1st way,
Get some Plantains (They are like bananas, but cant be eaten raw). Cut them super thin, like a couple of millimeters thin. Then fry them, until they are golden brown and hard. They should be then left to cool, and wrapped in tissue to soak up the oil, you salt them and they are ready to eat. Something like chips but nicer.

2nd way,
Get some Plantains. Cut them to about the thickness of your thumb, and fry them for about 2 or 3 minutes on each side. Then take them out and let them dry for about 30ish seconds. After that, put them standing flat on a table, and with a plate squish each one until its about 5mm-1cm thick, depending on how you like them, and where you notice them breaking, you want to make sure that they stay intact, and you will need to adjust for everyone. After that let them sit for about 2mins, and then re-fry them now that they are squished, for about 4-5mins. Take them out, dab out the oil, and let them cool.

Well, plantains are the easiest things to make, and they arent such a hassle since they are more like a snack, but if you need something more, just let me know.

patacones are noob stuff lol

you can try the ceviche, it has ecuadorian, peruvian and colombian preparations. since im ecuadorian i only know the ecuadorian and the peruvian, but i researched the colombian preparation and it's quite similar.

you will need:
- 40 fresh prawns
- grated orange rind (1 orange)
- grated lemon rind (4 lemons)
- orange juice (4 oranges)
- lemons juice (1 lemon)
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of chili (very hot chili)
- salt
- 3 red onions sliced really thin
- 2 red tomatoes chopped really thin
- 2 tablespoons of coriander chopped really thin

preparation:
cook the prawns on boiling water for 2minutes. take them out and wash them with cold water, peel them but don't take the tip of their tails, take the black veins off the dorso. on a bowl, mix the prawns with the rest of the ingredients, put it on the fridge for +/- 3 hours and serve on a small bowl. it is also served with a portion of white rice to go with it.
besides the cooking/peeling of the prawns, all you have to do is mix all the ingredients. should be easy

note: ceviches can also be made with crab, octopus, fish (corvina), squid and many more. you can also mix them all up and make a mixed ceviche which is REALLY tasty

i've tasted the peruvian and the ecuadorian ceviches, but never the colombian. looks good

MMMMMMMM I love those. We call them tostones tho... probably like the difference between fries and chips in english. Either way, these are total win. Go with this.

K well I just presented my project today, the result...I think I did okay, not great, but okay. I stuck with my colombian style hotdogs , but if I didn't procrastinate, I would have made that Patacone thing KJ mentioned.

Flan is delicious. But theres a variety of it, theres Flan de queso (Cheese), de vainilla (vanilla), de coco (coconut) and probly more. And one important ingredient that most latin cuisines involve is Sofrito, many ways to make and its great for seasoning. Learn how to make it and u can cook lots of things.

Finally, a thread i can reply on!
Just make arroz con leche, i had to do the same thing back in they day for high school.
Its pretty easy to make, and everyone seems to love it.
