A return to Walmart

Hi, it seems that i was given a gift "Windows Vista Ultimate + service pack 1" recently, and i was wondering if i can return this to a local Wal-mart without a receipt.

The item is not opened, not destroyed, or anything. Still as it is, with handprint.

I was wondering if i could "return" it to Wal-mart for Store credit.

Anyone tried out something like this recently?

I am trying to get rid of a OS in which i know my cpu can't handle :banghead:

Keep it. It would be dumb to take it back, never know when you're going to need it.

And no, they won't take it back.

Actually, it depends on the store, some are more lenient on returns than others. At the most you MIGHT get store credit. Don't count on it though, just try and see what happens.

You can try, I don't know the value of store credit, but I think you might get more if you ebay it.

It's definitely worth the try if you don't want to keep it, but it can be difficult since it's software. My boyfriend had a similar case, and they didn't trust it. Next day, I tried, traded it in and got the money. If you have a gf/sister/lady friend, let her return it in your place. Chances are they drop their suspicions.
If all fails, bat eyelashes. (The girl that went in your place, not you.)

Store credit is basically a gift card for the full amount of the item.

Almost 100% of the time, any store wont refund without proof of purchase. Its like stealing from Walmart, then trying to return the item for money lol.

I work at walmart and mine would take it back if it is still in the plastic wrap but if you don't have a receipt you will only get a gift card and if you took the plastic wrap off all they can do is exchange it for another copy of it

edit: the item must have originally came from walmart or it will come up "item not found" when they scan it and you will be caught

Not really. I've checked with the local K-Mart, and if the item is the exact same model (for DVD players) the UPC is the same, and so both stores have no way of knowing if it's theirs when there's no receipt. Smart workers though, will have ways of knowing if it's the stores or not.

How would that prove anything at all? Taking inventory shows how much has been stolen through the year, sure, but not wrong returns.

It shows how many you have, and how many you've sold, does it not?

Its not very accurate, a lot of rushed cashiers will scan an item of the same price or key something in just to get rid of their line. Unless they were returning A LOT of copies of windows vista at the same time then checking the inventory wouldn't help.

Its funny you say that. Every time I go to Walmart, their customer service like is huge.

It also shows the returns, and since generally, there will be more sales than returns, is not a way to show if something that has been returned was or wasn't sold from that store. Thus, his "that's where inventory comes in" doesn't affect my post about UPCs and other stores.

when circuit city went out of business i went to their store for their sales before they closed and i found guitar hero (the 80 dollar one) for 30 bucks...
then i took it to walmart and got store credit for it for like 86 bucks.. i told them it was a present for my nephew for his birthday but his parents already got it for him... so he gave me the 86 dollars in store credit and i bought 2 of the prepaid gift cards, one for 50 and another one for 25 dollars... there u go...
VOILA!!! made 50 bucks yay xD
