Ok, well I seriously have gotten sick of vista, and this pc has HP recovery, when u start up, blue screen HP(invent) F10 recovery, and it wont work cuz of vista, so I wanted to format the C:\ drive but I accident delete a lot of files in my Windows directory so I dont have a explorer, I used ctrl+alt+del and started up ie8 and OMFG I WANT GOD DANG HELP!!!!! how do I get xp back on, I have no cds atm, all I have is a my xp-mce partitioned on my C:\ and locked as Recovery!, any suggestons

why would you even touch the windows folder if you don't know what you're doing.
i would download xp, burn it, backup any necessary files on some dl-dvd's, format hd using xp cd, make some nice partitions for the backup files, and then do a fresh xp install.
but that's just me

btw, i'm currently switching to windows 7 since it will have xp on it i think. i would recommend doing so too

the thing is, I really do, I'm just new to getting farked over by vista

How do you accidentally delete files...in the windows directory? Man you have the english of a three year old >.> You pressed control alt delete and it started IE8? Or you went to 'new task' and started it up manually? What's that even have to do with deleting key windows files..?

If my interpretations were correct..the only way to get XP again is to download & burn then install on new partition.

i cant even begin to comprehend what the hell you are talking about.

what i "understood" from all that is he has xp installed on a partition but somehow he can't access the partition, so xp won't run.. and that may be because he was deleting crap on windows folder, ironically he "knew" what he was doing but he accidentally deleted some very important files of some sort. then again, vista is just pure horseshit, i wouldn't be surprised if the system just imploded on its own retardness and created errors on its own.

download xp -> burn xp -> backup files -> format hd -> install xp ->

it's not that i don't know how to use it, it's just all messed up and different from other (better) os's like 98 or xp. also, it uses alot of resources, which isn't really necessary. i just turn everything off so the system runs smoothly.
there's some stuff in there that really piss me off, but most of all, the networking is just really a pile of shit.
so IF you are a vista fan, don't even try and brag about it, i will just spit on your face and shit on your food plate. just if.

vista just doesn't go with gaming.

You shouldn't have to read an instruction manual for something to run good. It should run good right out of the box.

What i meant is he might need to read a manual to understand how it works.

after reading the first post all I can say is throw it out the window and buy a new one with XP installed already... and stay away from Windows directory!

Vista is crap. I won't even try to install it

Ive had vista for 2 years now(i think), and ive never had a major problem with it. If you're bad with computers you will find vista difficult imo.

You're best of doing what evilpeta said apart from moving to Windows 7 cause that sucks i've tryed it. Move any necessary data that you want to keep on to an extrenal drive preferably. (Make sure you've un-plugged it when you're formatting)>Format>Install XP> Install a decent Firewall and Avast. Then you're fine to do anything.

i just lol at people who say vista sucks its called put on a computer that CAN run it......not your outdated pos computer.

OT you can do what was said above and dl xp or you could even switch to linux

Vista wins... go to your accessories folder then system tools.. and use the system restore... and hope you have a point before u messed with it :]

and if you're a cheapass download the free zonealarm firewall (or get the complete cracked zonealarm security suite ), also spybot search & destroy. make spybot's "teatimer.exe" a startup process on Start -> Run -> msconfig -> startup, make sure TeaTimer.exe is checked

I'm actually not bad with computers, Common Sense tells you if you delete the Windows Directory and some initial files from your system start-up you would be able to run the F10 Recovery and have the HP Recovery tools be visible. But knowing that Windows was trying to be idiot proof it made most of the files Read-Only. Now with this I typed C:\Windows delete, deleted some files such as explorer but not the whole Windows folder, which in this case gave me that situation. When I restarted my computer though the explorer was recreated thank god, so I'm just going to install XP the old fashion way. Thank you for your post and attempt to help me in this time of confusion with shit... I mean Vista. Admins or Moderators you can lock this topic, thank you.

Running vista here (for almost a year), I wouldn't say its better than XP, but it sure looks good
