District 9

Previewed before Wolverine. The trailer gave me a really similar feeling that Cloverfield's trailer has done before. The film is, afaik, going to be documentary style. It's based on a short film done by the director in 2005.

Plot from Wikipedia
The short film is about aliens landing in Africa and becoming contained to a specific area and forced to work. In the movie these aliens are called "Non-Humans" and are overseen by Multi-National United (MNU), a company which is utilizing alien technology.

Aside from the trailer released, everything's been viral campaigns, like Cloverfield. Here are site related to the movie:

Pretty excited for this movie. It's coming out on August 14. Some people call it as the biggest surprise movie this summer, but we'll just have to wait.

Looks interesting. Kinda hard to believe this is how we would treat first contact though.

If first contact popped out of space with no intentions of leaving but needing resources from us to survive its very believable. Think of the way we treat illegal aliens in this country, and those are human beings.

woah.. the first minute or 2 of the clip reminded me so much of halflife 2, with the gravity gun the way he was throwing objects around,
i never heard of this movie b4 but i think its going to be a must see for me.

It's not about first contact, it's about the years after first contact from what I can see and understand from the movie and trailer. So first contact was made, but nothing good came from it. Aliens blending in our society and slowly spreading, parasiting resources.. Not a completely unrealistic situation really. In the event that aliens would visit Earth, that is. :D

I was a bit sceptical while watching, but I have to say it looks pretty interesting.

People who dont get this are the kind who go and see films like Wolverine and
actually liked it for its story and acting ¬_¬

But seriously this is going to be an amazing film, and like mentioned above it
has nothing to do with first contact, instead its about how the aliens are being
treated by this one company and the government in South Africa.

Also only small parts of the film are shot in documentary style, as the film
follows a reporter who invertibley becomes caught up in the aliens struggle for
equality.

Aliens landing on Earth itself is already a sensational idea. Them landing with that kind of situation is even more unlikely.

i didn't say i was expecting it...i was saying that if they arrived under those circumstance, we would be assholes like we always are...if they arrived with death rays, we'd turn into pussies...

EDIT: Saw it. Liked it alot, couldn't find any flaws in the acting or the story. I wish i got to see more of the Aliens world and their real culture but alas. If i had to rate it i'd give it 9/10 and highly recommend it.

You assume everything way too much.

Why would there be aliens with space ships on our planets for years, taking resources and stuff and we havent taken the technolgy and got our own spaceships and w/e.

Unless they did in the movie? :d

It's actually more plausible for a community/species to move to another planet for resources than to just make contact. The will to survive far outweighs the thirst for knowledge.

Just saw it. I liked it, as I expected. The action scenes are pretty fun - makes me wish they made a game for this, just to wield that crazy alien weapon. I don't really know what to say lol.

Saw it earlier today. Was pretty damn good, but the story line unfolded waaaay different than I had expected (probably because I didn't read any plot outlines, just went in after seeing previews) Either way was still good. Had a good bit of documentory style filming and a lot of shaky camera footage. Nice action scenes, etc etc. I'm not a movie reviewer, it was a good movie.

I did find one flaw during the movie and remember going "hey wait a minute", but then after leaving I couldn't and still can't remember what it was... I fail. :P

awesome pig flinging gravity gun. too bad the aliens are still using binary systems. (or maybe that's because they built their ship from human computers?)
