dual harddrive?

I got an extra 500gb harddrive here (dont ask how) and i'm undecided what to do with it (lol...). should I buy an external harddrive enclosure or should I stick it straight into my computer case? what's the benefit of each and more importantly, how do i actually stick it into my computer case and configure it?

you could always make a backup of your stuff if you wanted, otherwise unless you really needed the space, there isnt a reason to add it.

If you don't have any other use for it, just throw it in there. Most motherboards and cases support more than one hard drive. The hard drives i got came with software to install more than one. Just look up a guide on google if you really want it.

Use it as a slave drive for the purpose of backups. Much safer then using a separate partition on your main HDD.

you can also set them both in raid 0 and improve your overall pc performance somewhat but you might want to know that when one of those drives goes you will loose all your information.

There are pins located in the end of your HD that have a small piece of plastic called a "jumper". It is used to connect a pair of pins to tell your computer in what mode the hard drive is operating(master, slave, cable-select). There is usually a diagram on the HD label or little letters near the pins that tell you where you should put the jumper.

Thats really only true for ones that use IDE cables. SATA drives, the pins are irrelvant.

Check the motherboard manual for the configuration. Myself I have 6 ports, red ones are master, black ones are slaves. It may depend on the motherboard type also.

as of now, im 1 sata cable short.

In my opinion, I think you should stick it in. I have only a 500Gb in mine, and I think I might eventually need more space cause it's starting to fill up cause I backup everything all the time.
