have you ever disputed a ticket be4?

Scenario: My dad stopped on the right lane of a 4 lane road to pick up my mom for less than 1min of time on April 1st. Today (15 days later) he got a ticket mailed to him for stopping within 5m of of a fire hydrant.
My dad is thinking of disputing it because:
1. Because there was no parking spot available, he merely stopped on the side of the road instead of parking right next to the fire hydrant.
2. He was not handed the ticket by the "ticket person" personally but rather mailed, he was denied the opportunity to gather necessary evidence to defend himself.
3. He was inside the vehicle the whole time, if anyone needed to use the fire hydrant, my dad could have easily moved the vehicle.
Facts gathered so far:
1. My dad will pay double if the dispute fails
2. "ticket person" now gets paid to show up in court, so winning by default is basically out
3. Judge will trust the "ticket person" more
Any advice is appreciated.

My dad said that he saw a "ticket dude"'s vehicle on a side street

Just pay the fine. You'll lose in court for this reason alone:

Meh.. this isn't really anything compared to New York, I've seen alot worse and pathetic
I've even seen a police car have its siren on and then ended up in front of a Dunkin Donut store
One police car was in front of the bus stop and it was blocking the bus from getting to the people, and they didn't even bother to move but continue eating their meal, so the bus driver had to stop in the middle of the street blocking cars in the back, i was trying to get into the bus*
However, the people who give out the tickets are suppose to give out a certain amount of tickets in one month to do their job, so many police officers just give out for stupid and little reasons,
But sometimes if you know a good ranking police officer and you show them their card, you probably won't get a ticket

you could probably win because
1. In most places you cant be issued a parking violation while in your car
2. If the ticket was issued by a camera, the police cant call it to court to testify against you

Understandable.
But seriously. I got out of a ticket just by talking to the cop. I reasoned with him and he let me go with a warning. One $250 speeding ticket avoided.

I'm not sure, but i know that you can park in a no parking zone as long as your in the car. Same might apply to fire hydrants.

That depends on where you're standing.
In Belgium:
If you see this:

You can't park, but can stand still
If you see this:
You can't park and you can't stand still

That's like saying DNA evidence is crap because it can't testify against you.

You can let passengers get in and out of the car at any place as long as it's only that and nothing more or unless it says otherwise on a roadsign.
I think it's the same in the USA so wtf? >.<

Srry but I'm 100% sure what you said is wrong.
What takolin said was correct. I also have my book infront of me and I'm from belgium.
Edit: First picture is sign E1 and is a "parkeerverbod"
Second picture is sign E3 and is "stilstaan en parkeren verboden"

The only reason I'm against this is because it happened to me sort of.
I was traveling at 40-45mph and the dude stopped to get some one off of the side of the road. I came with in Inches of hitting him. The car behind me also almost hit me. The road he stopped on is the busiest in my area.
I think that can be another justification for your father to lose in court. Although it might not be a busy street things still happen.
No offense though Good Luck.

I wouldn't bother disputing it. Your dad was in the wrong. Laws are there for a reason, whether or not your father was sitting in the car waiting for your mum. If it however, was a loading bay which you're allowed 5 minutes to pick things or drop them off, it would be a different story.
Fact of the matter is; your father was in the wrong. He was caught. Now, in turn have to pay the fine.

Just pay the fine.
Unless you have alot of compelling evidence that gives you a reason to have stopped and not have gone further to find a parking space, eg. there was Cthulhu in your car, they arent going to care.
If you dont have to pay the fine for it, why shoud anyone else whos ever been in a simular situation (and I'm sure there has been).
Goodluck either way though.

I received my share of tickets quite often, but I paid them all. I figured it wouldn't be worth all the future hassle of disputing it. But it would be interesting to learn about it's outcome from someone else's experiences.

Well i guess its not really disputing it, but i've managed to talk my way out of a few. In my country your not allowed to carry any passengers past 11pm while on your red P's ( pretty much for your first year of driving by yourself ). I've been pulled over a few times because of this and played dumb "oh i thought was 1pm" or "i honestly didn't know about that law, it wasn't in my L's book, is it new?". Play dumbing and sucking up is the best way to get out of it. Hell i should of lost my license on the spot >_>

Yeah! They're extremely lenient of a night time - usually they don't feel like having to fill out a ticket and is easier to warn people telling them to go home.

haha I got a lazy cop when I got pulled over. 80 in a 55 zone = $250 ticket. I talked him out of it by saying stuff like, "do you really want to go through the hassle of all that paperwork? It's the middle of the day and I need to pick up my sister." He let me go with a warning. gg
