Do you find this offensive?

Ok, this is tourism Australias new ad.

Image

As Americans or Japanese, do you find this offensive? I ask this, because in the age of political correctness. A time where, everything has to suit all religions/cultures/races etc, Is this offensive?

In my opinion, I don't think it should be offensive. It wasn't intended to offend and it isn't like the flag is replaced with a Nazi Flag, or a Japanese flag. It is a umbrella.

The reason it was made was to attract the Americans and Japanese to Australia and the Gold Coast. Australia's tourist hub. (Where I live)

Apparently
Instead of American soldiers raising the Stars and Stripes atop Mount Suribachi, Tourism Australia has a family erecting a beach umbrella on the sand.

In doing so it disrespects the sacrifice of thousands of US soldiers who helped protect Australia, defeat the Japanese and bring a swifter end to the war.

No doubt some people will have a cry about it.

This is is bullshit.
They arent erecting the flag on a dead american or making any offensive references.
I'd understand outrage if it was an australian was lying on a beach with a crossroads sign reading "Losheimergraben" and "Bullingen" (http://www.archives.gov/research/ww2/photos/images/ww2-186.jpg) as it is an image of devastation and loss, whereas, the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi is an image of Unity and Victory.

Then again, being Australian and all, we do have a higher joke thresh-hold and tend to poke fun at other cultures moreso than other places, in my experience.

Was about to say that. Our last "Where the bloody hell are you?" was offensive to Brits because it says "bloody". Oh the horror which comes with that word.

Then we get Baz Lurhman whatever he's called to do a an add with that "Creamy" kid from Australia the movie, and it was pathetic because it was nothing like Australia.

rage rage rage.

@Sacchin. What do you mean? :(

Telling the black and asian kids at my school that we have a queen is one of my favourite passtimes.

There was no wogs, there was no beer on the beach and there was no god damned Green P's.
This is why the movie failed.

This "political correctness" seems quite extreme these days, people find some kind of offence in every goddamn thing. If it has something to do with a war, that's disgracing those who died, if it has something to do with cultures and races, it's racism. And I said goddamn, ooh, that's so explicit language. This post should probably be censored... So obsessed with seeing offensive material in things that obviously aren't offensive and were never meant to be offensive. Damn, the stupidity of humankind never ceases to irritate and befuddle me, not that I'd be apart from it though..

I can understand that some people may experience it as an insult, but I myself have totally had it with fucktards interpreting everything as an insult to their beliefs.

It's become clearly evident that your government is trying to get Australians to make Americans come over then send in the comi-kazi kangaroo squad.

I know everything!!!!

Australia tries harder to get Europeans and Japanese people. Not Brits though, because we don't like them. We also need to ship the Kiwi's home.

American's don't really come here, too far and costs them too much $$.

I honestly don't find it offensive at all. This coming from someone who was going to join the military. Dunno, seems all in good fun.

Obviously, with majority of people thinking like yourself. Proves it is the minority of people who complained about this, and it will probably get taken down or removed.

Americans will find offense in just about anything. A lot of people living here seem to have nothing better to do than get offended. Bunch of whining prudes if you ask me. I thought it was a cute picture.

IMO War vets are the only ones who should be allowed to be offended at this. Everyone else can shut up lol.
