Heh yeah gangs with military training is a bitch, but the Gangland program makes it sound like a new thing. This kind of stuff has been around for years. All you can really do is train police better. I'm sure the military deals with it as best they can.
I liked how they called the former marine's illegally modified slam firing SKS an assault rifle, which also was apparently using armor piercing rounds. SKS rifles fire the same ammo as AK47s but they are semi-automatic and most have internal magazines, even though some can take detachable AK mags. You'd be hard-pressed to find 7.62x39 AP for sale anywhere because it's illegal. Then again he could've gotten the illegal ammo from his gang. As disturbing as the shooting was, you've gotta admit the former marine's performance was impressive.

i heard that on aircraft carriers, the gang problem is so bad that officers need armed MP escorts to go to certain places

I totally agree with this comment:
"I bet after this aired even more gangbangers decided to join the military." But who would you send to a war, a couple of strong gang members or some rich kids?

How about just normal people who believe in defending their country instead of two groups who definitely not have that interest?

Saw that episode, wasn't really surprised when I saw some of the people that were joining the army on the news.
