I know we had alot of graphics card threads lately but computers confuse me. I need help deciding between the GeForce 9800 GTX or a Radeon HD 4870.

gtx should be cheaper if price is a concern. It really depends what you will be using it for. SRO only? Might as well get a 8800..

id go with nvidia
I had an ATI ro replace my dead nvidia til I got a new one, and even though it was supposed to work better, it was a disaster.
dont smack me, I'm a computer disaster myself, dont know much about hardware (though pretty good concerning software stuff), but dam is it normal for a gfx card to break after 2 weeks? the fans on it got messed and it was making terrible noises and shutting down computer by itself. Never had a problem with Nvidia

anyone who picked the 9800 gtx = fail
They aren't even on the same level.. I think the 4850 is closer to it.
The 4870 totally destroys the 9800. Google some benchmarks and you shall see

tomshardware.com <--- Go there and read their charts / tests. I went there before getting my card. ATI Radeon HD 4850 is among the best price / performance. Running SRO at 1920 X 1080 max resolution smoothly on my 23inch LCD. Of course u can get 4870 for more as.s kicking setup.

All I know is ATI, recently got a 4850 though, its awesome, quiet, cool, great performance, and was fairly priced.
Made my cheap pc able to play most games out there.

I've never really experienced ATI, but it's all the same IMO. A few FPS drop or increase won't be much noticeable.

Well, the 4870 will play all those games maxed out (or very close to it) so I guess you're set. ^^

Based on his needs (and money), we can determine which card is right. Bang4buck = very considerable factor..duh.

My brother runs cod4 on an 8600, dunno if it's maxed settings but it runs smooth and looks great. (and that card kinda sucks now.)
I'd still go with the 4870.

Do you think a 4850 is enough?

4870: 170$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102810for 10 dollars more:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102801my suggestion:
180$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814143155no for NVIDIA retarded fanboy reasons but couse is the better card. power consumption is way lower which translates into money in your pocket with each electric bill.
