Teachers.

Post by Tasdik »

So why is it that here in America people are always talking about teachers being "Under paid, over worked and under appreciated"?

1. Teachers are paid decently

2. They get all summer off

3. I love me teachers and tell them that frequently. But really how often are bus drivers appreciated?

Discuss...

Yea right teachers are wayyyyy underpaid. They are educating the future of this country. In all honesty i say teachers should make the millions, athletes should be getting the 30k a year.

teachers are not paid decently i dont know where u get that from, most teachers work 50-60 hours weeks or more half of that is out of the class room, cause they have to make lesson plans and correct papers, not to mention all the stress they go through.

Don't like it? Don't become a teacher. You can't sign yourself up for a job, knowing damn right you are going to get paid poorly.

The teachers at my highschool (pvt.) get paid I think around 100k++ a year Australian dollars. Most said, they would do the job even if it didn't pay. I doubt that, but they teach because they love teaching.

Afaik a lot of the teachers use an already "set up" lesson plan. At least that's the way it works at my school.

And once again let me remind y'all. Teachers get summer off and any other school breaks. Easter, Christmas etc...

Well in New York, they are beginning to increase the school days lowering the summer days from what i've seen, and it was somewhat a difference from 8 years ago,

yea in my school they use an already set up lesson plan from like years ago

Well i think that regular city office workers work from 8:00 - 5:00 and school teachers work from 8:00 - around 3:00-3:30 for tutoring

Alot of the teachers really don't care, its really up to the student that chooses to perform well or not

What you're saying isn't true; the majority of teachers set up their own lesson plans. They get a set of guidelines from the higher-ups and do the rest themselves.

Teachers don't get summers off. Many are required to teach summer school.

If you teach in a wealthy district the pay is decent. The less off areas are where teachers are underpaid. Over in west NJ a teacher with 25 years of experience has their salary capped at $55,000. Inner city teachers make even less, not to mention they have to deal with kids with a lot of behavioral problems.

TBH I do think they should be paid a little more, just cause of how boring the job seems (to me atleast). Esp. english teachers..they have to grade like 30+ essays in each class, now that is boring :banghead:

Sure. They can be the ones who like teaching. There's nothing worse than getting a teacher that either.

A) Isn't good at teaching
B) Doesn't like teaching

Yeah, and they should be paid accordingly, instead of being told "accept that you're underpaid or GTFO." That's not how you should treat good teachers, especially when they're needed so badly in poor areas.

1. Their not paid decently in America. But most of my teachers don't really teach me much of anything anyway so its not going to help my future at all.

2. That's just a plus, some have to work during the summer to make some extra cash. Ex: Summer school.

3. Bus drivers... Each year of high school I went through (this is my last year) I gave my driver a box of candy for x-mas. I tell them to have a good afternoon each day/ good weekend / or a good holiday break. They have to hate it just as much as me. It takes me 30 minutes to get to school and 40 to get home.

1. Not hardly. Kinda does depend where you go, but even at public school they aren't paid enough. I believe that no matter what anyone says, if they aren't making extravagant amounts of money, they aren't happy.

2. Yes. Unpaid. Most find a part-time job.

3. This is the only one I can agree with. By students they are heavily appreciated. Usually for every disgruntled student there are two or three others that think the opposite. The problem is from the parents.

high school teachers at most schools make 20k-30k a year. That's not good pay for someone who went to school for 4 years.

I said they make "decent money". Not good, but not bad either.

I guess that I just don't agree with the whole "Under paid, over worked and under appreciated" thing. Because I do think that the good teachers will/can end up making more money while it's the bad teachers who get the crap salaries. Of course there's always that good teacher who takes a bad job because he/she loves teaching.

I don't really think that their overworked.

And I really do appreciate my teachers.

Paying "good" teachers more wouldn't work. There's no real way to measure it.

Teachers in poor areas *are* underpaid.

Teachers educate the future, is that not a seriously important job? Teaching deserves a much, much higher paycheck. Just think of how you learned to read, write, solve a mathematical equation, etc. No one would be where they are now without teachers. Of course that applies to other things as well, I just see teachers as very..underfunded.

lol most teachers do such a horrible job that they actually need to be fired cuz they are so lazy and it shows thru their face that they are here for the paycheck.

there are a FEW teachers who are passionate that DO deserve a paid raise but these teachers are in the huge minority.

Here in Belgium, I think they get paid enough.
One lesson hour here takes 50 minutes, and they work 7 a day, which makes 350 minutes; let's say 6 hours.
After that if they work 2-3 hours @ home i think they have a normal 9to5 job.
Most of the teachers here have a 36hour week.
And @ the vacantions they don't have to teach, they can go on holidays whenever they want :D

School starts around 9 and finish at 3, they are probably there long before you get there. Probably 8 I reckon. After everyone leaves school, they are there till 5-6, they go home and no doubt they work from home also (work that is not paid for). I remember one of my teachers saying they sometimes work till 10pm marking work from home.

For what they do and the hours they put into teaching they are very under paid.

You can' judge the majority of teachers based on the few that you've seen. If you could prove your statement..well then I'd agree.

Exactly. It does somewhat depend on the field they teach in but I know most of my teachers are there 1 hour - 20 minutes before class and stay up to 3 hours (sometimes more) after school or do work at home. The whole 'get summers off' thing isn't a perk either. Unpaid summers on top of a not-so-good paying job.=\

Some people are forgetting that they also work through some school holidays.
