Best Fighter/Bomber and one of the meaner looking Aircraft. Great American design as usual! Although it is 42 odd years old. Still an amazing plane and was kitted out with the latest in technology although it was old. It has served Australia well, being a large Island with a huge border to protect. Our alliance with the United States and motherland England always makes us a threat.
Now Australia is the now the only country which still uses these Jets yet plans to get rid of them and replace it with the F35-Lightning II.

While that jet looks cool...come on, whos going to invade Oz? lol
Also us in the UK...has to be the Harrier jump jet. The Harrier Jump Jet, often referred to as just "Harrier" or "the Jump Jet", is a British designed military jet aircraft capable of Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing (V/STOL) via thrust vectoring. The Harrier family is the only truly successful design of this type from the many that arose in the 1960s. The Harrier has become an aircraft icon and is seen as major milestone in aviation.[citation needed]
There are four main versions of the Harrier family: Hawker Siddeley Harrier, British Aerospace Sea Harrier, Boeing/BAE Systems AV-8B Harrier II, and BAE Systems/Boeing Harrier II. The Hawker Siddeley Harrier is the first generation version and is also known as the AV-8A Harrier. The Sea Harrier is a Maritime strike/air defence fighter. The AV-8B is the second generation Harrier and the BAE Harrier II is the British variant of the second generation Harrier.

The Asian countries above Australia like to come into Australia lol. Sounds weird but Indonesians, Malaysians and Singaporeans don't like Australia because we're allied with the US and England. Attacking Australia is almost just another way of attacking the US really. If we were to be attacked the UK and US would jump to our aid if we needed it, as we would for both the US and UK . Australia is often underestimated as a country of power. If there was no need to defend ourself we wouldn't, though it isn't just defending ourself. Even though some Australians say they dislike the Brits, would quickly jump to their aid lol.
Looking forward to getting the new F35's. Apparently we're getting 75 F-35A's to replace the F/A-18 Hornet.
Silly satman
Edit: Love the F-22 except the Americans won't sell it to Australia, nor the UK.

I want Australia to make its own Jet, though I'm scared it will look like this.
Srsly though. I think Australia could make a Super Jet. Though no point when we can easily buy them from the US. The US has served us well and we shall serve them well

Solid aircraft in a defensive role. We don't have the right kind of aircraft for pure air superiority or tactical strikes, but I guess it doesn't matter when anyone on your territory is a real threat to the United States.

Yes to my understanding, the UK has the greatest record of Air-to-air combat wins. Plenty of Computer games even where you fly around bombing over top of Tower Bridge and flying around the Thames.

The best thing about Europe. So close to other countries, makes you easy to defend I guess. Harder to keep foreign aircraft out of your Airspace though. Croatia has a more colourful Air Force though
Also, Worlds best Air Force List.
1. USA 2. China 3. Israel 4. UK 5. Russian 6. France 7. Australia 8. Turkish 9. Canada 10. Germany

This is so disgraceful i cannot possibly imagine that ANY of you guys didn't mention the world's greatest jet fighter of all time! I'm being dead serious about it too.
F-14 Tomcat, which was recently grounded, sadly, was, and will be the best jet fighter, the world has seen. Not because of it being a "movie star" but because of it's long-range, amazing dog fights, and many more!
Out of all the pictures I saw in one of the posts, I was hoping to see a F-14, without success.
I guess most people already forgot about this beauty, and also this beast!
I am disappointed

America won't sell F-22 to Australia it isn't a matter of being able to afford it although USA is now considering selling the F-22's! Australia isn't poor... We were going to get 100 F35's for 23 billion. You have troubles reading?
The USA has refused even close allies like Japan access to the F-22, and Congress has banned its export. But defence analysts say that if Washington changes its mind, Japan and Australia could be among the first to get access to the type. Lockheed is also keen to keep its Raptor production line open, but a major deterrent to a foreign sale could be a reported development cost of up to $1 billion for an export variant.
Before you jump to conclusions that Australia can't afford something.

The F-35 is a Multinational project. Many countries have signed up for it. In fact, here's Australia signing the JSF Production (Joint Strike Fighter Program).
In November 2006, satisfied with the F-35's progress to date, the Government gave 'first pass' initial approval to the project under which F-35s will be acquired, with a decision on whether to order the aircraft being scheduled for late 2008. Following this initial approval, on 13 December 2006 Australia signed the JSF Production, Sustainment and Follow-on Development Memorandum of Understanding which commits Australia to the next phase of the F-35's development.

Australia doesn't have B1. We have the F111. It is one of the best suited planes for Australia, being so far from most countries. Also acting as a Fighter/Bomber it suits us well. The plane itself may have been old, but they had the latest weaponry, radars, and full interiors. It costs just as much to keep them in the air as it will to get new Jets.

China is on neutral grounds with Australia. The F-35 is superior to that of the Chinese anyway, Australia wouldn't attack them unless US and UK were there.
Malaysia, Indonesia and other Asian countries have threatened Australia. Amongst those is also India.

Yeah. Well with our previous government, the Howard government, they tried purchasing Nukes. Now the Rudd government came in (the bloody goodie goodie government, bastard even signed the Kyoto Protocol). Although we don't have much need for nukes, we're probably best without. Having nukes makes you an automatic threat. Why have them when we're allied with the UK and USA who both have them. Besides Australia can't engage in war with India until Britain's tick of approval to attack a country within the Commonwealth.
*Koalas. They're already on the decline, especially down Victoria where all their trees were burnt down. I've only ever seen one Koala in the wild.

We're turning SRF into WW3. Anywho. In Australia's support to the US, I just read this.
Britain, Israel and Australia have "expressed interest" in a US campaign to launch "surgical" bombing raids on Iran targeting the Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities, according to one of the USA's leading investigative reporters, Seymour Hersh.
"There's been expressions of interest from Australia, other countries," he said. "The Israelis, of course, have gone bananas. They're very upset about the idea of not going. If you're going into Iran, the Israeli position is very firm. They want us to go. And they want us to hit hard. As an Israeli told me, if you run into a lion, you either shoot it or ignore it. You don't pluck out its eyebrows."
