Microsoft Kicks Woman from Xbox Live for being Lesbian

In what is a baffling move, Microsoft has banned a woman from its XBox Live, after she noted herself as lesbian in her profile with the Xbox Live community, according to the reports from the Consumerist.

The woman, identified only as Teresa, complained about the suspension of her account and all the harassment she faced as she mentioned herself as a lesbian in her profile with Microsoft Xbox Live.

The woman notified that she was harassed by other players of the community, and she kept on moving across various maps and games in order to avoid all the harassment and the gamers kept on following her and even informed other gamers to report to the Microsoft as they didn’t wish to see “that crap or their kids to see that crap”.

However, the company upheld the move by saying that it is already mentioned in the terms of use of the Xbox Live that no gamer is allowed to use the text or comments that anyhow indicates the sexual orientation of the gamer.

Furthermore, the company asserted that the profiles that do have tags on sexual orientation are directed to make the desired changes in the language, and stay suspended until they do so.

I don't see how it's baffling tbh.

Microsoft clearly state: "it is already mentioned in the terms of use of the Xbox Live that no gamer is allowed to use the text or comments that anyhow indicates the sexual orientation of the gamer."

Her own fault.

xbox has alot of innocent little kids screaming the word "fuck" when playing L4D or Halo 3 but lesbians are the real evil. Why won't people think of the children?

/sarcasm

I thought guys found lesbians hot? Or was it all catholics at the time? It's all silly nonsense. I can understand why they say not to put that in your profile but unless she was sexually harassing someone. Meh.

Okay. There was nothing wrong then. Microsoft is just keeping their policy, but somehow they remind me of how Joymax keeps botters away from SRO...

Is this story even true?
why would Microsoft ban someone who is being harassed?

So, if one was to say they are straight, would they too get banned? Hmm...

what irks me is that they BANNED her account instead of suspending it like it says in the agreement.

I'm pretty sure it's part of the EULA somewhere. Microsoft moderates a lot of content you can put in your Live profile. Since being a lesbian has absolutely nothing to do with anything Live related, and is really only asking for unwanted attention, I can see why they might do something like this. It's not like she can't just make another Live profile anyway.

I guess as long as they suspend people who put their orientation as male or female in their profile, everything's fair game. If not, then GG.

If its in the TOS then there isn't really any argument there...

Title is misleading. They didn't kick her for being a lesbian, they kicked her for not following the rules.

Wrong. Sex =/= Sexual orientation.

However, the company upheld the move by saying that it is already mentioned in the terms of use of the Xbox Live that no gamer is allowed to use the text or comments that anyhow indicates the sexual orientation of the gamer.
