Cable vs DSL

Not really technical help, I don't think. Probably is. No one goes there though > >
I'm on a router, the main connection has comcast with boost or whatever the hell it's called. The cable box and router were moved BEHIND MY MONITOR today, yet my connection remains shit. My xbox live connection is dead, of course.
This is my speed

My question is - If I had DSL with 3.0mbps would this be better then what I have? I'd rather have 6.0mbps but I can't find any DSL provider other then Verizon and AT&T and they offer only 3.0mbps for Philadelphia. Anyone here in Philly have a good DSL provider?
Sorry if this is the wrong section....I'm THAT desperate for help..>_<

975 kb/s is shit?... Dude wtf, I never have anything close to that.

I have alright download speed. 4,000kb/s though 109 kb/s upload which sucks. It costs $130 AUD a month which I don't pay

but Australia has the worlds fastest wireless net connection.
I thought USA had amazing internet, and I would kill to get such value for money.

For a cable connection with extra boost, yes absolutely. Jackal has 5k+ and has DSL.

I have cable btw.. I think

let me find my plan thing.
BigPond Cable Extreme 60GB High Speed## 60GB per month $0.15 per MB $129.95 monthly
So I guess it's cable.

I've noticed pings of 40-50ms with comcast internet on pc games while my friend a few blocks away with dsl have low pings of 15-20ms on the same server.
Sometimes comcast isn't the best.

My ping is usually 40 even 19 sometimes. Unfortunately comcast has run out all other cable companies. But I'd rather have DSL then this low speed crap and a router. Routers are nothing but crap -.-

yea I know, comcast did something to my net. There was a counter-strike server I played on for close to a year and would get ping of about 9ms(server was located about 15 mins from me). Then when they introduced the 250gb limit, I only seem to get 40ms+ on it.

Last October, it's to fight off torrents and streaming movies(netflix type stuff) so you will buy their pay per view movies on their cable box. With an xbox you could stream tons for only like $14 a month, while you could only rent maybe 2 movies for the same price on the cable box.
If you go over 2 months straight they cancel your account.
Side note, when DSL or Fios is available ill be switching. Comcast is stopping them from being available in my area. It's a modern day monopoly.

Hmm that makes sense..
Damn I need to get rid of comcast. Isn't Fios really expensive?

Ah, I checked that out, seemed way more then I needed but my only other option with Verizon was 3.0mbps, I'd hope there was something a lil higher for philly but we suck too much =.=
Thanks for the link btw.

With upload speeds that high something is wrong with your connection. They wouldn't provide a 1Mb/1.2MB connection like that. Try to find out what plane you're on, Like 6MB/1MB - 10MB/1MB - whatever. Then call them and let them know something is up. You're pay for more than 1MB download, trust me. Could be a problem on their end, something at the street perhaps...messed up switch..all kinds of things could be wrong.
I'd give it a day or two to see if it clears up, if not give them a call. You can usually get credit to your account for downtime (slow speeds like that). Saying it started a few months ago and they're liable to credit you for a few months.. (I didn't say that. xD)
What brand/model router do you have? I have a Dlink DIR-825 and I had speed issues when QoS was configured wrong. Also, month ago we had slow speeds like that for 2 days, cleared up the third day and back to normal now. (8000/500)
I'd cut off my right leg to have Fios available here...

+1 I noticed a huge difference from my friends DSL to my cable. Can't really give a good comparison but we pay the same and I have twice the DL and 1.5 the UL.

no cable where i live (middle of nowhere).

this dsl is not so bad imo, plus i go on
http://www.dslreports.com and on this forum, my isp hired too technicians to help there customers online, so i ask if i can "try" a higher speed to see if it works so they upgrade it and they say they will take it off in a week, and they never do

. DSL FTW!

It's been bad like this for months lol It's just starting to get worse. Must be my router. Has to be. The comcast guy is coming Tuesday, I hope he knows what he's doing. Unlike all the others =.= My router is Linksys N. The most infamous pos router ever made xO The person with the main cable won't let me change it...so I'd rather have DSL...plus my xbox live has days when I have 1 bar and day when it's full. More days of 1 bar then it should have =/

It's not about flat out speed, it's about the quality of the line. It's been pretty bad with comcast lately, I've had a few nights where my internet would have a 999 ping on games/speedtest.net and webpages would take hours to load on every pc in my house.
That and a 250gb limit to not download free/streaming movies is a real turn off. Why in the world would I need fast internet and not use it?

Comcast sux, though i've never had slow speeds with em really, but the service and prices. I liked Insightbb, but them comcast took them over.
Dsl ftw though, I get speeds just as much as any cables i've had, dls seems just as good and better then some *points to Sacch* lol <3, and pretty cheap.
She has the router right by her pc, wouldn't it make it better, or could if she tried plugging an Ethernet cord from the router to her pc? Obviously the wireless sux.

This is what I get through Comcast after they fixed the cabling (which is the real problem). Before that, 5 years ago, I had Comcast one-way cable (upload was dialup) which was crap.

DSL is better in some respects. You're not sharing the connection between you and the ISP, unlike cable. Comcast either oversold your network and it's saturated, or there is a problem with the signal getting into the house. Squirrels chomped on the external cables at our place; they replaced the external box and cabling into the house. That 11mb/s download is the result. We only pay for 6mb down/1 mb up and could easily get 20mb/s down (but I'm cheap and 11mb/s is plenty fast).
Don't let up on them. If you tell them you are going to switch just because you can't get decent download speeds, perhaps they will try something out of the ordinary.

Hmm, well it might be something wrong with your router or modem. I had horrid problems like that, the modem was broken so i would slow down to 50kb/s. I would suggest going in and trading it for a new one.

Matter of fact they gave me a new Touchstone modem a few months ago and I hada buy a new Linksys router cause my last one died(had it for like 3 years, linksys has never given me problems).
I'll probably call them and say my net has been acting up.
