Need Some help with making a montage

The Game(s):
-Combat Arms
-Silkroad (Possibly, after I cap)

Let me fill you in. I've got FRAPS and Vegas 8.0. I've looked through a good deal of SRO and Combat Arms montages already. I'm just having some troubles with the small things. Such as:

-Lag during gameplay while recording
-Video size (3.9 GB for a 4 minute clip)
-Video quality, whenever I try to watch it, it seems to load/lag at different points while playing

Questions:
-How can I reduce the lag while playing? Should I record at a lower or higher FPS? How does FPS affect video quality?
-What program can compress the fraps video into something smaller, and still be uploaded onto Vegas?
-Video quality, how can I stop the lag?

Also, a link to a tutorial for this kind of stuff would be nice. Thanks. :)

EDIT: Here's the finished product

I would like to have the answers also. But I think all you need higher ram and a better internet connection for lag in game or in vid.

Well, my comp has 8 gigs of RAM, quad core 2.4 ghz, 8800 GT NVIDIA GFX, and my connection is Comcast. I'm pretty much set in that. It might be because the comp. has been on for 72 hours atleast... I'll shut it down tonite and see if it makes any diference.

I'd suggest refreshing your PC a bit too. Run the defrag real fast, clean some files up.

You can do several things:

1. Defrag, like curve said. I suggest this, it will help.
2. Tone down the settings your recording at (game video/sound settings), even a the 8800 can have trouble.
3. Make sure you're not wasting any other processing space.

For those games though, a defrag will most likely be most helpful thing. The reason defrag will help is that it will take the load off of your hard drive, no need to explain how it works, just do it. I can run into horrible lag with my 9600GT when recording Audiosurf.

The reason your getting 3.9 GB files is because your encoding wrong. I would suggest you go to a website that knows more about video editing if you want help on this. Concerning the question about compressing the fraps video: you don't compress the files your editing, you do that when you encode the final video. Video editing can take up a lot of space.

Oh and
