Villagers who claim to have seen the snake say they have given it the name of Nabau, after an ancient sea serpent which can transform itself into the shapes of different animals.

lol. They base a lie on a myth to hope for truth. :roll:

It would be pretty awesome if it was real, I've always had a passion for snakes from a young age. But I am a little sceptical myself, not because I doubt the possibility of it existing, rather the chances of it being a fake are just too high.

It's a lie. They purposely decided to go for a snake because of it's rich history in snakes. On that note, how come we never hear of monster Cow's from Texas?

Because we breed them, and then kill them. Borneo is pretty unexplored. The possibility of there being a snake that long is possible. I highly doubt it is real though. That first picture looks pretty fake to me.

Yes, it is possible they found a skeleton of one in South America which was HUGE. Bigger than the ones that are out there now, and from what the article said was bigger than the ones in anacondas.

They where able to get that big due to the warmer climate of earth at the time. So it is possible but I don't think that one is real. If it is I would be surprised.

I could be wrong, but don't apostrophes also denote possession? Which is what that quote would fall under.

Yes apostrophes do denote possession. The possession being the snake to the people of Borneo? :?

Code: Select all

You can denote possession by adding just an apostrophe or by adding an " 's ." So it's either "Charles' " or "Charles's."

To wiki!
The apostrophe ( ’ or ' ) is a punctuation mark, and sometimes a diacritic mark, in languages that use the Latin alphabet or certain other alphabets. In English it has two main functions: it marks omissions, and it assists in marking the possessives of all nouns and many pronouns.

Edit: Whoops, reading further into the article....
Possessive pronouns and adjectives

No apostrophe is used in the following possessive pronouns and adjectives: yours, his, hers, ours, its, theirs, and whose. (Many people wrongly use it's for the possessive of it, but authorities are unanimous that it's can only be a contraction of it is or it has.) All other possessive pronouns ending in s do take an apostrophe: one's; everyone's; somebody's, nobody else's, etc. With plural forms, the apostrophe follows the s, as with nouns: the others' husbands (but compare They all looked at each other's husbands, in which both each and other are singular).

The possession would be of the rich history to Borneo. Anyways, see the last post.

It's = it is
Its = possession

It's one of the most common errors college students make on their English essay papers.

I personally don't give a shit about large snakes in Borneo, so I would rather argue grammar. Unless you were referring to the snake in the first place, then carry on.

Three things:

1) http://www.stormloader.com/garyes/its.html

You all flipped out about the apostrophe and you all were wrong. RAWR! :love:

2) It seems too fake and too isolated of an incident to be real.

3)
