this one better earn me some cookie points, a hard find

when you experience slow bittorrent speed, is your problem or your isp is limiting your traffic?

The following test will introduce a third person's view into the situation and under a controlled environment, it will determine whether your isp is limiting your downloads/uploads
1. http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparen ... t-mlab.php scroll to buttom, choose your test type
2. click on Start Testing

here are my results for my ISP Telus:
Is BitTorrent traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?

* The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP upload achieved at least 527 Kbps while a BitTorrent upload achieved at most 546 Kbps. You can find details here.

* The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 2282 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 2286 Kbps. You can find details here.


Is BitTorrent traffic on a non-standard BitTorrent port (10009) throttled?

* The BitTorrent upload (seeding) worked. Our tool was successful in uploading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent uploads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 562 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 550 Kbps. You can find details here.

* The BitTorrent download worked. Our tool was successful in downloading data using the BitTorrent protocol.

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits your BitTorrent downloads. In our tests a TCP download achieved at least 2202 Kbps while a BitTorrent download achieved at most 2293 Kbps. You can find details here.


Is TCP traffic on a well-known BitTorrent port (6881) throttled?

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all downloads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP download on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 2292 Kbps while a TCP download on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 2202 Kbps. You can find details here.

* There's no indication that your ISP rate limits all uploads at port 6881. In our test, a TCP upload on a BitTorrent port achieved at least 629 Kbps while a TCP upload on a non-BitTorrent port achieved at least 562 Kbps. You can find details here.

My torrents always seemed to be slow to me but maybe its just my home network.

You're going to get a shit download rate if there people who are seeding have shit upload rates. Even worse when there are few seeders. If it's an unpopular file expect shitty speeds. Sometimes you get lucky though.

more like constant luck unless your looking 4 rare things

google works on the top link being the most used link meaning alot of ppl still have it seeding so you basically type torrent after the product you want..
