Planning on overclocking? I want to OC my q6600 but I don't feel like spending $70 on a TRUE120 right now.

I didn't buy the black edition. The graphics card is already overclocked so I wont be looking at pushing that any further just yet :P

I got an OCZ Vendetta 2 HSF for 40$ canadian and I can OC to 3.6 (and higher) with temps that never go above 55°C under stress. No need to go all out and get the TRUE =p

Looks like a nice set up soda ^^ I built mine last September, best choice I've ever made.

never ever never ever overclock a intel porcessor, u'll just look at it one day and cry and then wonder why u did such a thing lol, but nice setup, though ur only running 32-bit, jump to 64-bit O_O, and i hate how vista does that shared ram thingy mcbober lol, pointless, but anyway very very nice setup bro, now go play some witcher or some other cool game O_o

Owns a lot more at 3.6GHz :P

Q6600 basically made for overclocking. You can go from 2.4 -> 3.6 on air easily. Infact processors these days are made with overclocking in mind. Hell the i7 was made even easier to overclock with. Why not get the best bang for your buck?

yah it can be soundly designed for overclocking but you shorten the lifespan tremendously, you say get the best bang out of ur buck... well there just may be a bang...literally..., AMD processors were and still are the best in overclocking though even though still not good to do so, its just better at it.. and if ur gonna overclock make sure u put some good gel on ur processor so it'll at least last as long a possible

Is the whole 4GB available? I've heard and read time and time again that 32bit operating systems can only utilize ~3.5GB. OC the processor later, go for 4.0ghz+ =D.

@Locketart good air cooling is cheap, I just got a sunbeam core contact freezer for $37 CAD off newegg ;D.

pff the CCF was #1 labeled as new last week :P

@Gaige You Know NOTHING.

Not too sure about the 4gb. I'm trying to decide wether I want to order a 64bit vista or a blu ray drive. I don't actual have a validated version of vista installed, I was hoping I could transfer my lisence from my laptop but it hasnt work.

However if I do order a 64bit I'll be ordering another 4gigs of ram as well.

-_-

Overclocking on anything reduces the life span, but hearing a bang is just overall stupidity. The lifespan isn't reduced by anything terrible either. If I managed to lower it all the way to 5 years I'll still be fine because in 5 years I'll have a new PC. I don't know much about AMD overclocking but I've heard from many that Intel is better in that field, especially now with the i7. Only shitty thing is you have to pay another 500+++ to get an unlocked multiplier with Intel whereas black edition AMD cpu's have it unlocked for quite a bit less.

@ Soda

After having 64 bit for a while I'm gonna say it's been a bit of a hassle rather than a plus. Lots of things still aren't 64bit ready and the extra 4gb is rarely needed, though nice to have. I'd rather go for the blu ray drive if I had to make the choice. Validated versions of vista aren't hard to find if you're fine with doing it 'that way'.

Well I tried transfering my lisence using a back up tool and that didnt work as I said.
I then remembered that I had backed up the lisence key from my laptop, that didn't work. However the key on the base of the laptop (which was different from the one extracted from the install using some software I found) did work, and just activated, which is brilliant.

Blu Ray here we come XD

Well... soon :P

too bad clock speeds arent as important as they use to be, look at the 8400s for example.

Well it's nine drive bays tall :P
Probably drive bay + an inch wide.
And depth of drive bay + standard ATX board + an inch or two in depth :P

My processor at load runs 31 degrees, max I've ever seen it is 33/34 and that was towards the end of an hour of benchmarking.

The 920 twenties are quite 'locked' in terms of overclocking, so max I could go to would be 3.4 I think, but I'm not gonna fiddle until I need more power. Because at the moment, this is enough for me :P

It just gobbles up anything I throw at it.

DiRT which wouldn't play on my laptop plays amazingly at absolutely max settings and looks beautiful.

I'm kinda bummed I did get a full HD screen to enjoy, but that woulda cost me a lot more considering I got my 20 inch at a bargain (107£ rather than the 187£ it is now).

I installed Crysis to see what it played like. And it plays amazingly :P

I don't own Crysis, thus have no idea what the cd looks like. Alas, my pc sucks too much.
