Well the UK has been hit by the worst snow storm in over 20 years.
All trains and bus' in London have been canceled, most airports closed and people
advised to not travel unless they really need to.
So am stuck here at home unable to get to work

lol? Looks like a few inches at the most. We don't even shut down here for a foot of snow.
Edit: The link in OP just goes to the general site, did you forget to link a specific article?

We had that shit last week. Knee deep in snow. Getting to work took twice as long because everyone was doing 5mph down the streets. It was a complete white out; lucky if you saw 50 feet in front of you. Of course, we dont get "snow days" at work here and you'll just get bullshit if you call off because of snow. In the AM when going to work it was -10°F outside. The car was frozen with ice, the wiper fluid wasnt working and once I got it working, it froze to the windshield too (Good for 20° below! ... my ass)
My car got stuck twice; once in the trucking bay here at work, and once at the house. It hit so hard n fast the city didnt have the plows ready until the evening time. To make that day even worse, my muffler died in the afternoon and I had to go to an auto body shop to have it fixed.
And LOL @ zeleman1a wtf...

The difference is, places like Vancouver and Washington DC are ready for snow, it comes every year, with lots of it, they know how to deal with it.
In the UK it rarely snows much if at all, so its just not worth investing into the vehicles and snow plows and salt to deal with it.
