AMD vs Intel
As most of you know, there is a battle between AMD and Intel processors, but I must ask, which is truly better? I'm not too sure how to compare the two, but as far as I can tell, AMD (for me at least) has been much better.
Is this just because my other computers sucked ass or what?
Don't just be a fanboy and come in yelling "AMD PWNS!", or "INTEL RAWKS!"
Why is one actually better than the other? Thanks alot.

Re: AMD vs Intel
I've always used AMD. AMD is more affordable and performance differentiations are not noticeable with similar processors.

Re: AMD vs Intel
AMD is GREAT!
Re: AMD vs Intel
Intel's been on top for quite a while now especially with the Core I7. The AMD Phenom 2 X4 is out as well but it doesn't come close. That's just dealing with the 'best' though. For lower end and more common CPU's I'd still have to go with intel again especially if you know how to overclock. You can easily get the best bang for your buck with the Q6600. I did quite a bit of research about AMD vs Intel when I built this PC (4-5 months ago) and everywhere I went agreed with Intel, especially if you know what you're doing in the bios.

Re: AMD vs Intel
The Phenom II x4 920 in terms of price vs. performance is actually really good. The i7 920 is a lot better but also a lot more expensive.

Re: AMD vs Intel
I switch, got no real preference. Atm I lean more to Intel, I think they are better right now.
I have also used AMD, I have never noticed one being superior to the other.

Yeah, I've heard Intel is ahead right now, but does it fluctuate often? And I'm pretty sure Intel makes you pay a slight premium, you can get similar processors from both, but the Intel will always be like 200 more bucks or so.

Heh not quite. The price difference doesn't range anywhere near 200$. The i7 is a lot better than the 2 x4 and it's about 100$ more on Newegg. As for fluctuation..Intel's been ahead since dual core pretty much.

Re: AMD vs Intel
i can argue points to hold both up so tbh each has their own use which if your making a specialist computer you should reseach, much as different processors work better in different situations, aka the Z80 processor is stil in use dispite the fact the core technology is about 20 years old simple because it serves its purpose
+1 for who ever can tell me where the z80 is used without googling it

Re: AMD vs Intel
I love it how people just say "Intel!" do they really know why they're saying it though?
People are not giving a pure description on why they like "AMD" or "Intel", just being fanboys like the guy said not to be...read the damn posts.
There are a couple posts here that do actually compare the differences between the two, I especially like the "highway" alliteration. It's how I always looked at things.

Re: AMD vs Intel
Never used AMD but searched a bunch when looking for a new cpu, AMD was cheaper but lookin at benchmarks everything stated intel performed better, this is just what i've searched for about a few processors of the same price.

sooner or later, reality will set in and sort them out. cause in the real world, no reason behind any statement means jack
you mean this highway explaination?

Re: AMD vs Intel
You can't compare brands, you have to compare models.
If you get an AMD on sale and pay the same price as an older model Intel, you will be getting a better process with AMD. If you're comparing a recent quadcore Intel model to a single core AMD model from 1999, you're going to be better with the Intel.
These discussions will always be fruitless, you compare the models (price vs performance); not the brands.
