Clean Energy

Which, do you consider to be the best form of clean energy? Which are you most likely to use?

~ Solar Power
~ Wind Power
~ Geothermal Energy
~ Hydro Power
~ Biofuel Energy

Currently only three countries use each form clean energy sources (USA, Australia, China).

As far as my country's concerned (Australia) Solar Power is the best form on clean energy. Although one of the more expensive, Australia has enough sunlight in one day if captured effectively could power the entire World for six months. The government wants people to use Solar power and gives thousands of dollars back as a rebate.

Which would work best in your country?

I love Solar energy i absorb it everyday chi kung ftw... plus the Sun is awesome!

Solar would work very nice in mine ,
and also i heard Germany uses the "clean" energy more than everyone in the world :p so yay for them

Solar Energy hands down.

~ Solar Power - only draw back is surface area it needs
~ Wind Power - the windmills can be pretty loud and also kill birds but still pretty effective, Germany is big on wind power.
~ Geothermal Energy - Earth's crust shifts and it becomes less effective overtime
~ Hydro Power - daming of rivers and streams = lost of aquatic life + changing ecosystem dynamics
~ Biofuel Energy - heard its very inefficient in terms of the energy that goes into growing the biofuel, Mexico's tortillas price doubled because US bought all their corn for ethanol production.

If possible it would be awesome to harness lightling bolts, since 1 bolt can power a small town for a year. but until then, I think solar power and wind power gets my vote.

P.S. you also forgot wave power and tidal power, go look up the sea snake and the Wave Dragon generator

Edit: corrected typos and names

on a cloudy day solar energy sucks.
Windmills are good, the birds that die by them are retarded anyways so it just leaves the smart birds to reproduce with other smart birds so they have smart children so its good for birds! haha
but yeah ethanol sucks cuz of what it's done to other countries.
I would go with windmills, they look pretty cool to see a huge one anyways, they take up a lot of space but also provide a lot of energy, it's pretty neat the way they work.

i vote for geothermal

If developed, i'd go for wave energy here in holland.
Or wind, we have enough of that.

But if we just put solar panels on every building of the world, our whole electricity problem will be fixed.

geothermal

Solar panels are better used if you use them to warm water rather than generate electricity, assuming you have geo/wind for electricity.

'Clean energy' is such a lose term.

Most of these gather the energy in a clean way sure ... but to convert it inot a useable 'energy' they still do it the old way ;d

I also vote for geothermal, it has amazing potential and the Earth never runs out of energy, doesn't have to do anything with the shifting of earths crust

Hydro Power or Wind Power.

It honestly depends on the geographic location. for instance theres high wind at high elevations, so if your on the tebetan plateau then u want wind power.
if you have miles and miles of waterfall then you want hydro-electric power
if you have huge deserts and almolst constant sunlight then you want solar power,
Biofuel kind of sucks, it only burns slightly cleaner than oil and is very expensive to make.
honestly id have to go with neuclear, and soon fusion power. they are completly clean assuming everything is working right. and Fusion would be incredibly efficient if scientists could actulay finishing developing the technology for it.

IMO it would be more attractive if they make it cheaper

technically solar seems the best, but wind would see more practical. it's not sunny everywhere, and solar frames aren't advanced enough yet. the rendement is only about 15%.
wind mills can be placed even on sea, and would be more powerfull there too. they really arent that ugly either in my opinion.

for now i'll go with wind.

*whoosh*
woooh invisble text ^^

Well an Australian scientist invented a solar panel which absorbs more sunlight than your regular solar panel. We also have a set-up which is made of mirrors directing the sunlight onto a small solar cell (can't remember the correct term for it).

You say it isn't sunny anywhere. It isn't sunny in every country, that I'm aware of and is why I said

"Which would work best in your country?"

Australia, has on average over 300 days a year of sunshine, and with 16 odd hours of sunlight in a day. If captured correctly Australia COULD power the world for 6 months from just 1 day of sunlight. Though capturing and storing is the problem. People also say that money is an issue, the government of Australia also offers rebates of, and greater than $8,000 if you are able to feed some energy back into the grid.

what about getting prisoners pedal bikes to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. you more you generate, the more pleasant your experience in the prison can be

why isn't nuclear energy listed? should use more nuclear energy so russia/usa can disassemble more nukes

whoever said wind energy is loud and kill birds, there is a new design that solved that problem.

If prisoners rode bikes and powered things, there would be massive up raw about it, as anything.

Nuclear energy isn't exactly clean, though is cleaner than burning Coal etc, it also has great repercussions.

Wind energy has been made more efficient now, from the large propeller like fans to something similar to a wirly-bird.

psh, then transfer them from prisons to 'reeducation centres'

They say there's no reeducating the already uneducated. Most of them rather be in prison to say the truth, going from a place where you earn your way up the ladder by showing violence and anger, to a place where you must work to climb the ladder doesn't exactly work in conjunction with their brains.

Well then force them to work with no incentive. It's better for you anyways lol

not a history person i see

reeducating centres comes from the former USSR/China, they call it reeducation centres, we call it concentration camps where you work ~20hrs a day with little food/rest. most people dont make it out alive, the lucky ones will then be 'reeducated' and learn to stfu and follow what the party says

i'll like to see you earning your violence and anger in those extreme conditions

It's not that I'm not a history person. It's just I don't see the point in confiding people to "concentration camps" when they've got little chance at being reeducated. :(

you are the missing the point

what is the better than cheap foreign labour?

free domestic labour of course

have the dirtbags generate electricity for you

technicly there not all exactly "clean" sure they dont produce co2 but causes other environment problems
solar decreas of heat on the earth basicly cooling the earth
wind decreases the energy the wind has = less wind if we over use wind
geo not much i know about that to figure out a bad thing
hydro is more or less a one time effect enless it breaks then again fish cant get threw but they have made improvments on that issue
bio same as geo not sure exactly enough to say anything bad

so see no energy is exactly "clean" enless we go with that lightning bolt idea from what i know its just a discharge like static electricity.

but i would go for hydro because its less harmful if done right
