Well... I've done it.

After much planning, a fair amount of dinero, and countless man-hours of work...

I've made a trebuchet. (Which isn't in Firefox's default language pack, shame.)

Don't know what it is? It's pronounced "Treh" "Bu" "Shay", and is a medieval siege weapon.


Here is what it looked like under construction:


Here it is set up. Horrible picture quality, the picture was pink before it was edited.


12 feet long throwing arm, the arm is at it's peak apprx. 16 feet in the air. The weight box weighs 300 of it's maximum 700 lbs, excluding the weight of the weight box it's self. (Approximately 74.5 lbs.)

Unfortunately, the sling requires fine tuning, as the current setup only launches soccer balls partially filled with water... about 30 feet at a constant negative slope. Adjusting sling release time is... annoying to say the least.

Post questions about specs and whatnot... I'm to lazy to list everything and I'll just edit the following spoiler with answers to questions when I've got the time / can find the paper with the detailed specs. The ratio of the length of the arm is fully adjustable, meaning it has the capability to be optimized when I've got enough money and spare time to chuck pumpkins.

It looks pretty sweet but like someones gonna walk by ur house and be like "wth why does he have a mideval siege weapon -.-

Its kinda funny though i once had the dream of making a caravel or a galleon and equip it with real cannons.

I'm loading it with pumpkins and watermelons when I've got an open field to transport it to.

The thing is fully collapsable and transportable in a Chevy Suburban. w00t.

But that doesn't look anything like the font...

i heard from a discovery channel show that says trebuchets are steadier or fires further with wheels or something...

It's sort of true.

I couldn't think of a way to make portable wheels, so I didn't make them.

And usually wheels are put on trebuchets in order to make a less violent swinging, distance is barely improved if at all.

the trebuchets are 10x times bigger than yours and they need more than 5mans to launch those big stones.. but i guess u cant make a real one nice trebuchet anyway

I'm not a fan of the Balista, and this thing took so many resources to make I doubt I'll make anything else for a while. I don't know the max range, I can't test the thing with full weight until I'm in a large field.

The plans I made were entirely made by myself... and are so messy (handwritten and edited many times) that nobody would be able to use them. But just look at the picture, and if one truly desired, one could make it.

Load either one really big paintball, or a bunch of regular ones, gather a large group of people, and play the most insane paintball game ever.


The winner of every match could determine who gets to use the weapon in the next one.

Also when I was like 11 or something I made a very small ballista outta alot of toothpicks. It was awesome til my dog tried 2 eat it and it broke .

I have a similar problem with my dog. He has possession problems. He shits on my trebuchet.
