The boy with the incredible brain

I just stumbled on this video, seems very interesting. About a kid with many amazing mental abilities. Dunno how old it is, and I know a lot of these types of videos get annoying, but this was a really great video in my opinion. One of the few people that has this kind of ability without the addition of crippling social disabilities. He manages to calculate Pi to the 22,514th number.
Watch the vid, it is an interesting 47 minutes.

He does have "crippling social disabilities" like epilepsy, Asperger/autism. I remember reading about another savant in Time magazine who's older than Daniel. He's a walking Google Map for the major cities in the world. He learned to play the piano and memorized hundreds of pieces. I forgot his name though. One thing that I remember reading about him is his impairment in reasoning, or something like that.

Such extreme abilities are unbelievable. I'm envious.

Yes, but in writing only. He can function normally with the world and the people in it as anyone else would, he just interprets it differently.

Amazing video. He's lucky to not have the social disabilities the these kind of people often have. It reminds me a bit of a book I had to read for English classes "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time"

He's not really a boy, you know...

I mean.. He's almost 30 years old..

and though he may be normal in talking to him, he's not really pretty, now is he?

Wow....really?

The topic starter didn't give the video its title, and when the boy was young he was amazing at math. So the title fits.

Also, when does looking good mean your normal.

Some people..

I never said he wasn't normal just because he doesn't look good.

I only said he was ugly.

Look around through my posts, I always comment on looks..

Was an interesting watch, shame it was brutally murdered at the end when the channel was promoting a program with as highlight the removal of a 14 stone tumor.
Almost as gay as cutting off the credits and not being able to listen to the music for a bit at the end of a movie.

many things can make a brain shoot into overdrive mental defects, tumors, or over developed right or left brain halves. but if the brain is not in overdrive it could be they have photographic memory or audiographic (some might not of heard of it but i actualy have it not diagnosed but i remember stuff people say even whole songs or even a whole lecture without taking notes) or some other type of memory powers in these days its possible

I don't know. He is smart, and not smart at the same time. He is smart because can do this super hard calculations, yet he's just reading it off his mind. Imagine a calculator in you're head, you punch in the numbers and you get the answer, but in shape, and then your brain identify that shape, and tells you what number it is. In a way, those Chinese kids are smarter than him, since they're doing conscious math, while he isn't.

The Japanese kids have it conditioned - they work on different principles than he does, but they don't calculate like we do. In that sense, they're process isn't more complex or demanding; simply more demanding learn. Him having an intrinsic ability to calculate means everything, and that's why he's so special: he didn't have to work to train his mind how to calculate like the Japanese kids, not to mention his abilities are closer to being limitless.
