Probably ATI cause of the AMD X2.

Your computer is not meant for gaming. It's use is for internet, typing, and email. What you can try is putting the settings to the lowest possible.

This is not a flame or even meant to be aggressive.

A laptop has never really been gaming computers, the small space generates a lot of heat and the parts are often pretty budget. Also, just because there's a lot of memory, like in this case it doesn't really matter, sure you can have a large swap file if you know some of the games are leaking memory but it doesn't matter if gfx card isn't good enough, and if the processor isn't good enough it's gonna narrow point because the processor can't handle all the info fast enough for the RAM memories that you probably will start (everyone wants to flash with 3 gigs of RAM, it's the deal now!).. What i want to say is that RAM is the hottest thing on earth right now, companies put in a obscene amount of RAM just to make it narrow point with everything else on the computer. RAM sells and no company wants to go without profit.

That's my opinion,
sure there are a lot of computers that are made or can handle games very good, but those are often really expensive.

This might also help, click the battery in the task bar and set it to high performance, when I got my laptop it was on power saver so it could be the same for you..

Other then that, you do need to know that your laptop was NOT build for running graphical applications (games, photoshop, 3ds max, and the sorts)

Laptops are not meant for gaming. Learned the lesson the hard way. Burnt a ram module, cost me $150 to replace it. And laptop overheats so easily now.

Well i dunnno about you guys , but i have a gigabyte laptop more than half year by now ,
2ghz core 2 duo and 8400m gs , im not really having problem with overheat during my gameplay's and i play games like fallout 3 , nfs undercover - of cource not on high but low-med goes just fine. Nfs goes medium on 25+fps which is pretty good for a 2008game :P , even without cooling pad... normal cooling pad would worth like 50$ if u want to forget about overheating ;P

Of cource its not a desktop , and even the screen isnt that comfortable to play with - 15.4"
But its enough when im bored in college or something :p

yeah and improper ventilation so the hot air can get out.
