This new movie; I think looks good as it highlights impacts humans have had on Earth etc.

Blurb:

In the film, a renowned scientist (Jennifer Connelly) finds herself face to face with an alien called Klaatu (Keanu Reeves), who has traveled across the universe to warn of an impending global crisis. She quickly discovers the deadly ramifications of Klaatu's claim that he is "a friend to the Earth." Now she must find a way to convince the entity who was sent to destroy us that mankind is worth saving - but it may be too late.

Here's what I'm guessing a news report would look like if it were to actually happen.

What's your opinions?

what a disgrace to the original, they might as well have changed the name, this is wayyy more than a remake....

I'm a big fan of the old classic Si-Fi movies...i have to say that this remake looks interesting but i'll reserve my judgement till i see the movie...i hope they actually work the story well and it's not just another CGI fest.

More remake from Hollywood, intriguing. On the bright side, it's not a sequel.

i saw it. While the first film had a very clear message of change and was clearly relevant to its time and actually felt like it spoke to its audience this film loses its message of change in all its CGI and unnecessary characters. While the film has an underlying environmental friendly tone its never really stated, in fact the only thing that is stated with regards to us and our current actions is that we are "killing the planet" he doesn't mention how we're killing it just what we are.

Overall it was a CGI fest, a very good looking movie about a doomsday scenario. Its not a true remake in any sense, characters that whose roles were downplayed should have been expanded, characters whose roles were expanded should have been downplayed. I got to see it for free but i wouldn't have liked paying money for it. I'm giving it a 6/10 because while its watchable, which already puts it above most of what hollywood is doing right now, i didn't think i was good. Had it not been called "The Day the Earth Stood Still" i might have enjoyed it more but that titlesraised the bar and while the original was pretty bland and black & white, it had content and a message, a point and a plot if you will. This one does the opposite, looks nice but loses plot and point and im just not as impressed with the latter...

Metacritic currently has it at 39 points.
RottenTomatoes currently has it at 24%.

I think I'll just wait for the DVD so I can rent it or something.

i think that was the only thing faithful to the film...you know b4 he bugs out. Remember Gort is supposed to be an advanced machine created to police the galaxy. In the book the film was based off of its reveled after the alien emissary is shot and killed that it was silent unmoving Gort who was the Master all along and the emissary was merely his tool. Im pretty sure if the original creators could have made him that big and imposing they would have, god knows they tried...
