These songs are sung with the usual nasal, high-pitch Chinese opera voices. My family is Chinese and we all agree that opera is pretty unbearable to listen to. One of my uncles sings Chinese opera and his normal voice has become really strange from all his voice training! This is just pushing it even further, and I've heard my share of opera since I was really little. Although I haven't heard these tunes before, I think they might be folk songs. But hey, it's an art form, and there are people who enjoy this style enough to pursue a career in it
(I still think these videos are cheesy and weird!)
There are some classical opera songs that sound a lot better, but it's not the stuff that you would normally listen to.
