Xp vs Vista Ultimate

I currently use XP and I need some good reasons to use my copy of Vista. It's been sitting in my desk since February. I'm asking now because I have spyware on my computer that I can't get rid of so I need to format. Should I stick to xp or install my copy of Vista?

Keep XP. Don't you guys notice Windows Vista makes your computer slow?

I'm an XP fan. If you know what's what, then all the annoying problems vista has with games shouldn't trouble you. However, compared to XP, vista is a huge RAM hog. I  XP

Vista will make your computer slow if you have an old computer. Anything good will run vista with no problems and i'd suggest you upgrade. I like Vista alot better than i thought i would and have had no problems with it so far.

I love vista but I have 4 gigs of RAM and had 2 gigs when I had xp so it actually runs faster for me

btw had it for about 4 months and its never crashed or had any bugs even once

This comes up time and time again.
If you have a computer good enough to run it, then yes get it. But if you've got 512mb of ram, then no, don't.

I've got 3gb and a 1.8ghz dual core and it runs perfectly. Vista is just as, if not more stable than XP.

Yea my system specs:

abit ip35 pro
q6600
2 x 1gb crucial ballistix
2 x 2gb g skill
gtx 260

I don't think I'll have problems running vista. My friend just keeps telling me I'll get a performance hit. He works in a government office and tells me the computers there are still using xp and don't dare touch vista for some reason. I'm curious though. I also want to try Fakefactory mod for HL2 which works best on 64 bit.(keeps crashing on xp) And doesn't windows 7 come out in 2010? That's at least a year away and then another year for it to become affordable. I got Vista for free so I think I am going to put it to use.

That's what I'm doing, my comps only 4 month old and he asked before he built if I wanted XP or Vista, I went for XP.

At least try vista. If you own a copy you should give it a shot if your going to reformat. My windows xp media center is lacking in the media center department(SP3 broke it). Now I wanna upgrade to vista x64 to use my 4gb ram but I do not want to get stuck with a pirated copy that dies in 2 months.

If you have or can get a second hard drive that is blank give it a shot.

nothing beats an apple mac os X leopard  with boot camp you can switch from mac to vista when you restart your computer,in fact powerpc has a slight advantages when using vista on it, since they come with great specifications they can run vista perfectly without any problem since they have intel processors installed

if vista slows down a old computer it slows down a new computer just a new computer has more RAM to handle it, therefore you can jump to the conclusion vista sucks

Stick with XP nothing better is out yet so dont bother

Well if you have 6gb of ram? :S
2+4, then you should definitely upgrade to vista, and considering you have Ultimate you will have 64 bit as well, so upgrade to utilize all your ram. Even if it was a typo and you have 4gb, it's still worth upgrading just for 64 bit.

Try it, if you don't like it, switch back. But to me Vista is a lot more stable, sure it might take a bit more to run but to me that is worth it for the consistency you get.

XP, because Vista is just like Millennium was, an OS 'connection' between 2 different OSs.

yeh?

he only says dont run vista on 500mb ram

tbh no matter what you all say xp speaks for it's self its a better OS, people only like vista because it look's cool, the only technical advantage is direct x 10 and seriously games all games except halo 2 pc can run on xp

XP was the glitchiest piece of crap of an OS i've ever had the displeasure to run, if you want vista to look like XP just turn down the settings and it'll look like XP, take up less RAM, and still be 1000x better...and thats all i have to say about that

Just to make my previous post clearer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_ ... f_releases

There was Win2k. Not long after it there came WinMe, which wasn't that good, but it was the 'template' for the todays WinXP.

At there days our WinXP is just like Win2k in the old times. So now we got WinVista which is something like WinMe was. And as I said before Win7 will be just like WinXP.

It may be confusing, but the point is, WinMe and WinVista are just a temporarily Windows. Anybody can confirm me (may be that I messed up with the Win2k/win98) but it's like that. Vista will go away before XP, trust me.

Funny thing is, I was in the exact same mindset as all you vista haters before I got vista. Look up my posts if you really want, but I was saying the exact same thing and that I would never switch to vista. THEN I used it, I loved it.

I could easily switch back to XP if I wanted to, I have my old disc. I even made a nLite edition that's stripped bare for performance then decided to go back to Vista cause I forgot how inconsistent XP is.
