my ISP wants to have a 5 Gigabyte bandwidth limit

My DSL provider is frontier communications and they plan to introduce a 5 gig cap limit starting next year for around $50 a month in my area, I don't put up with this bullshit. There are no other internet providers in my area but I was wondering if it was possible to have a comcast drill a line to my area for a large free ($1000) would be fine with me.

Good lord 5gig limit..
Best to call them up and ask about it. I'd expect it to be more $ though..

the price doesn't bother me I would come up with the money its my way of saying what I think about such a greedy company
even worse is that this company tries to justify its future cap (taken from their Terms of service)

yes, which is the only reason I'm willing to throw thousands of dollars at comcast or whoever my new ISP will be just to make frontier regret what they did

5GB??? JOKES...
Even most packages offered right now are around 50-100GB, at least in my region.

Idk if comcast would do that, less you wanted to lay your own cable down. I havnt heard of any ISP that would run so much copper for one person, less a bunch of people closer to their service range get it and expands it closer to you. However i dont have comcast here, have a smaller cable company, strange thing though, i cant get DSL...its Dial up or cable.

Don't know about AOL but I ran BT once when I was living with parents and we didn't even know the limit was 20GB it was only in the small print. I download ALOT and that month we got a £300 bill. Needless to say we canceled that provider.
Now on Virgin Media, £18 for unlimited 10MB broadband.

Use to be on unlimited Comcast (isn't it being capped now at something like 150gigs) when I lived in the US living with my dad. Living in my own place now, but the people I'm living with have a 40gb limit.
I just a lot myself 1gb a day, which allows me to what at least 4 or 5 hours of tv episodes/videos. If I need to download something big I just use less the next couple of days to balance it out.
I just hope the rest of the house uses less than 10gb.
I keep an eye on my bandwidth using BandwidthMon. Btw the 'month' starts on the 21st.

My girlfriend has an external 'dongle', which is basically satellite internet that uses 3G (cell phone signal) to get internet and she has a 5gb limit from Vodafone (which was the largest available (apart from Unlimited from T-mobile thats actually limited to 10gb)) and it's just fine for her. Only issue is for gaming, pings are really high due to the respond time. Something like 400ms (400ping) for me. But download speeds are great, I was very surprised at just how fast it is, which is usually around 300kb/s when downloading.

That sucks.. 50$ for 5 gigs jesus.. I got the shittiest isp ever (t-com) and they charge about 15$ a month for 5 gigs, 18$ for 10 and 25$ on flat and I thought this was expensive >.<
And that average user thing is bullshit, I downloaded 87 and uploaded 11 gigs this month + I rarely download stuff.

Your wireless net must be leaking then, cause if you 'rarely' download stuff, you shouldn't be using 87gigs.
Then again you uploaded 11gigs, and without using p2p or hosting a webserver that's very difficult to do. So downloading something that's about 100mb in size takes ALOT more bandwidth than that.

What I wanted to say is that I download this much when I rarely download stuff
so them saying 1500 megabytes is average is ridiculous
Upload is thanks to private torrent ratio building, can't upload much with 2 mbit internet anyway

i like how the internet will never run out and all you have to do is access it but they're treating it like is in limited supply....if comcast or RCN ever did that i'd drop in a flash
