California: Proposition 8
Today has been kind of a mixed day for me. I'm really happy that Obama won, but my bubble burst when I heard that Prop 8 just barely passed here in California. For those of you that don't know, proposition 8 eliminates the rights of gays to marry. Personally, I feel that its highly ironic for people to advocate a free market and condemn government involvement in people's lives and support the government when it actively proposes to eliminate the rights of gays... anyway just wanted to put that out there.
McCain, he (Barack Obama) said, will soon "be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten."

Re: California: Proposition 8
i was going to make a thread about this early but didnt apparently. i wasnt too happy about it couse this is just bs taking away others freedom and let me say that i am a homophobic and have no sympathy whatsoever for gay people but w/e you choose to do with your life should be your choice as long as it doesnt hurt others. same with abortion, i am big with abortion. i dont think any1 who is unable to bring a child to this world should and i tend to link this 2 things together as people pushing their belies onto others and truly makes me upset and it takes away from my idea of "America" into bs land with bunch of religious freaks.

lol won't we all
yes, raises taxes for people making $250,000.
Btw the businesses getting taxed that make products will raise the cost of their products to help balance out the higher tax demands on them. Not to mention big and small businesses may have to lay off some ppl which does raise unemployment rate. So yes it will affect you even if you arn't getting directly taxed, you will feel it indirectly.
As for proposition 8, idk what to say about that...

Re: California: Proposition 8
i couldn't believe it passed when i woke up this morning. The obama thing was kinda a double edge in that case. The only reason so many of us went out was for him and consequently 7/10 African-Americans voted for the bill ~_~
i always find it ironic that the ppl who support their bigotry in defense of the book were condemned to slavery by the very same book. I hope they wake up sometime soon. Anyho its a real disappointment to see something like that succeed in a state like that. The fact that the same types of bills passed in Arizona and Florida are no surprise but i was hoping cali would be different. Well...theres always the Northeast. Also ironic because that used to the most religious and conservative part of the country....

i don't think that prop 8 eliminates rights since according to the Constitution of California, those joined in a civil union still get rights (this includes homosexuals). what prop 8 is doing is essentially defining the term "marriage" as a ceremony only between heterosexual couples without taking away rights

srry i read wrong.
heres what they are gonna do.
Provide Tax Relief for Small Businesses and Start Up Companies: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation. Obama and Biden will also support small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.

no, only those making under $250,000 which, according to what I've heard, is about 95% of them

im not to clear on it and i could be wrong but i think business and people are treated differently. He said if you make less than $250,000 a year you won't won't see a tax increase. That same logic shouldn't apply to business because if you think about it if a company pulls in 1 million a year its employees will only see a percentage of that, even the boss will only see a percentage of that. So its possible for the business ot make over $250,000 but its employees and bosses to make less than $250,000
and we're way offtopic...

That sounds all fine and good for start up businesses but it's too bad he will tax them more if they become successful, it seems kind of odd to me, very contradicting. All I can say is I haven't supported his tax plan to begin with but if somehow this ends up helping America I will still be glad that I was wrong, but we'll have to wait and see

it think your right but marriage gives couples more rights on a federal level which now those couples won't be able to get. And i think there still remains a large number of absentee ballots to be counted so it might still be to early, X heres hoping...
@Foo so you would rather keep taxing the middle class and providing massive tax cuts for the wealthy...something which has resulted in the largest gap between the rich and the poor in US history with the top 10% controlling over 80% of all the money...that seems kinda effed up

that is 5% of the businesses in the united states if i remember correctly and ya a 3% tax increase will destroy the country, that is why you and others like yourself need to stfu couse you dont have a clue of what is going on. on the other hand ill give you something that should really play a number on your mind 400 or was it 200 extra billion in extra tax cuts for big corporations that they didnt ask for. that is money going out of the system while we cover ourselves in even more debt a really smooth move ......

Re: California: Proposition 8
the more they make the more they can spare for taxes, thats why taxes for people making lots of money are high, they will still be in the wealthy column weather they pay taxes or not, but yeah we are way off topic, srrys.
as for prop 8, im against it, like the supreme court decided it would be against peoples rights to not allow them to get married, but as i have read 3 people have filed law suits on the voter decision, no idea how thats gonna be handled.

I did not say it would destroy our country and I did not say we should continue taxing the middle class either, don't exaggerate my words. The problem begins when company's start shipping jobs overseas because of the taxes here and cheaper labor overseas. And of course I support tax cuts for the middle and lower class. Like I said this could actually work out alright or even help us I'm not totally against it.

Re: California: Proposition 8
Doesn't America have a 2% interest rates? That's quite cheap compared to most countries. Then again, don't people who work in McDonalds (Adults) get paid $7 an hour? -.- Slightly off topic from "Proposition 8", but I just have been wondering, why do people earn so little money?

well working at McDonalds isn't exactly a hard job to get that requires much education or even speaking English sometimes >.> so I would expect it to be low lol.

Hmm, I see.. however here, If you've worked at McDonalds, as opposed to having worked at Burger King, Mcdonalds would look better on your resume as they have higher standards of food. McDonalds is also quite expensive here compared to in the US, and Australians also get a lot more pay for working there. On your first week in McDonalds here, you would earn more than $7 per hour =D.

you were spouting your nonsense with the other moron til then and yes as you seem to have realized this is a good approach but you had no clue before and is why you need to educate yourself before trying to hold change words.
and in one of the few places where if you study or have a great idea you can make it big time is in the united states and that is couse of the system is held by, no because you are more special than that kid who was born in africa in the middle of some desert. this is why you should never complain about paying taxes when you make large amounts of money and the difference is buying 10 ferraris or 9, again you are no that fing special, our system is, our country is.

Yea this shit sucks. Prop 8 passing was a step backwards. This vote is a temporary defeat in the long march toward equal rights for all citizens in America. Amazing how long its taking for all of us to be equal. What part of California do you live in Iguana?

Listen, I'm not talking about freaking 9 Ferrari's instead of 10. Of course I have no sympothy for them. What I am referring to is businesses having to lay off ppl because of taxes. Other than that YES I agree with you said in your last post. Other than that negative aspect the positive is the additional income which will be used to help reduce our massive debt *hopefully*
