Well as the title says, im going to have a serious debate for my ethics and cultural class. My subject is about having black school (meaning the studies for the history class will revolve around african-american culture but the other subjects would be the same as any other school). This doesn't mean only black people can join, but anyone from any other race can join as well. I am pro for this subject meaning I am for the idea of having a black school. Do you guys have any arguments for me to use during my debate. I am only asking cause I've been searching for quite awhil and I only came up with a few. Kindly help me out guys. Thanks in advance.

If someone came up with a white school they would be denounced as a racist and attacked by educated people. That will be the primary argument people will raise against you.

The only way to prove you deserve special schools is to prove you live with special circumstances. But you have to be careful about it, because any half decent debater can turn that on you.

Search it up on google and you'll find real articles about Toronto actually trying to make a school just like that. How is it stupid? So your saying a history class revolving the United-States or Canada is stupid? Why are you degrading the African-American culture? It's pretty much the exact same thing but only for African-Americans? Your reasoning makes no sense whatsoever unless you prove it.

You're proposing not a class but a school where four years are devoted to the study of 300 years of culture, much of which is undocumented. The study of U.S. history in a high school only takes one year. Enjoy finding a way to drag out African-American history without boring students to death. And yes, modern African-American culture sucks.

If you LIVE in america and your only learning about african history, that would make no sense

If you have trouble finding arguments to support your case, then work from the other side: consider arguments against your case, and try to find proper counter arguments. You can even use those in your presentation, saying things like: "Some people may say ......, but they'd forget .....".

Ultimately, assuming you're opponent is half decent, you'll be debating racism. Which is never ending.

How is it racist? The school will be teaching on african-canadian culture instead of just plain boring dull canadian history.

Basically, here are my 3 arguments:
-It was proven in recent studies that one out of two black student doesn't go far enough to get their high school diploma because of dropping out because of school problems like racism. Stick them together and it would help them not skip/drop out. (Not really a strong argument since It's hard to back it up [help me please on this one]).
-Theres 36 different types of schools, from amerindien to homosexuals. Why not one for the blacks?
-The black people would interprete the world in a different level. They wouldn't be concerned about the history, studies, etc as the other schools. Instead of studying Jacques Cartier and all that, they would learn about their own personal culture. It would be nice to learn something new, instead of that old one.

Basic history lessons are usually about mostly white people. As such there would be no reason to have a class (I'm not so much in favour of dedicating a school to one special class; just make it a course people can take) specific on white history. Black history on the other hand would allow for more time to focus on the influential black people of the ages.

this is very true I suggest you try to avoid this conversation because it doesnt really answer your main topic of why it is important to have schools to teach african-american history

instead I think its best to lean more towards the inequality of teaching time between african american people compare to white people and how the school system downplays the importance of the african american civil rights movement and how the downplay of the civil rights movement affects the views of some white people towards african american people because some white people still think black people need to just forget about what happened to them and get on with their lives how some wonder why black people today are statistically less educated than white people oh and also why black people still have resentment towards white people (shizknight would be a great example of this confederate flag waving mccain supporting bitter religious gun owning inbred dumbass *joke*)

All in all avoid the race argument it might be hard but just steer it more towards education than race if its about race u will lose because that shit will make it long annoying and Farking boring just make it as sort of an eye opener for white people to understand the african american culture is more than just martin luther king and I have a dream

Makes little sense, plus, it won't matter, it's the prime arguement any atleast decent debater will try to rise. I love debates, an I would not neglect to throw that arguement at his feet.

When people say African American it means Black. Anyone that believes they don't fall under black gets to retain his/her ethnic background at the discretion of popular opinion. People that don't know one's ethnic background will instantly label one black or African-American. African-American is nothing more than the pc label for black.

The whole white school thing is pretty straight forward. A white man would be attacked by others if he chose to cater to the intellectual needs of whites only. The man probably isn't a racist, but people will instantly think "Racism." Good intentions are easily misconstrued.

the white school could easily be called european history school or modern american history and there goes the racism

its not about who they are teaching but what they are teaching because the school that sauron is talking about teaches african american history BUT its open to anyone

When I tell people my ethnicity is Moroccan, they ask where it is and I say Africa. The first question I get is, "Why aren't you black than?" /facepalm
