I would say Japan surrendered to the Allies, considering the Manhattan Project was a combined project of USA, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Stop being ignorant.Jstar1 wrote:Amelie wrote:wow
maybe I should rephrase what I posted so I don't make myself look like a rah-rah USA nutbag. America was one of the major contributors to the end of WWII and the fall of Nazist germany.
Anyways, my point was that the people who look down on america should be grateful for the things the US has done for the world. And for those who think thats an arrogant statement, you really do need a history lesson. Who supplied soviet union's weapons/equipment? Who planned and spearheaded d-day? Who stopped japan from destroying the pacific world?
And you know whats funny? America even loaned money to germany and japan after they got beaten up from the war. If russia or china destroyed a country in a war, do you think they will send aid to help them afterward? Or do you think they will invade that country and sit in there? (Russia --> south ossetia, and China --> tibet)DumboDii wrote:Actually if my memory serves me right America had retreated from WWII before it was ended.
Japan was the last axis enemy to surrender and when they surrendered WWII ended. They were fighting in the pacific and after getting nuked twice they surrendered. Wait - who did they surrender too?

Lots of people give credit to the USSR for its contribution to ending WWII. If it hadn't taken millions of more American and British lives, we might not have even won the war in the first place without Russia's valiant effort. Without USSR's help, all of continental Europe and Britain would have well gone under Hitler's feet. And Germany would have had the US by the balls. But just because we give so much credit to Russia for defeating Hitler doesn't erase Stalin's his phenomenal lack of respect for human lives.
The USSR's contribution to the war effort is actually much more minimal to the US if you look at the broader picture. Near the end of the war, both the US and USSR beat up Germany badly, but it was only the US who actually strived to rebuild Europe as well as Japan after the end of the war. The USSR actually acted to hinder US post-war efforts and put us through more shit than we needed to go through. No victorious nation of a war has ever treated its defeated enemies so kindly in history. Ever. The USSR's lack of humanitarianism, its selfishness and inconsiderate way it behaved even just right after they claimed victory over Germany makes Russia a far different country from the United States.

Yes. America has done its best the past half-century to prevent a nazi world invasion, to prevent a nuclear fallout, and to contain communism. I think preventing the world from becoming a bloody pulp numerous times is worth it. Not to mention the billions we pledge on behalf of third world countries, or our light speed response to any foreign natural disasters. If you could, would you go back in time and replace America with China and see who does a better job at policing the world? How about Russia? At least I'm sure I wouldn't be here if that was the case.
I didn't quite get the later half of your sentence.
Casting America in a bad light and genuinely hating the US is the worst thing you could ever do as an American citizen. I've discovered that most people who say that "oh, sure, America's good intentions have always masked a hidden, more heinous plan" are the same people who believe 9/11 was an inside job, the holocaust never happened, and we never reached the moon.
Yes, I know much of American foreign policy is riddled with controversies (USS Maine explosion, CIA involvement in Central America, Tonkin Resolution, Invasion of Iraq etc.). Yes, I know the government has financed terrorists and done some pretty unbelievable things. But face it - there's a reason why everyone has always sought to come live in America for the past century. Politics and war aside, why not look at the way America has changed the lives of so many people in a positive way. By living here, you or either your parents and grandparents are pursuing or have pursued the American Dream and thats a beauty that cannot be found anywhere else on this planet.

Or how about we just tell everyone else to just shove it, because while America has its list of shady acts, it's nothing compared to the rap sheets of other countries. That doesn't excuse us from our actions, but it also doesn't make us stand out by any stretch of the imagination. And if you think it's possible for a nation, let alone a world superpower to survive without the occasional slip-up or bullshit act, you've gotta wake up and smell the coffee.

I'm not praising Russia. I'm just sayng that US didn't stop the WWII by itself.
And didn't US sell supplies for Germany and other European countries just becouse they had to refresh their economy some way?
And I wouldn't say US was the superior good maker in WWII. US sold casoline for Germany which was used for tanks etc. Also American architect was one of the main builders of Auschwitz.

You had me up until "the occasional slip-up." You basically ruin everything you typed before hand by making it sound like the USs shady doing were just things that happened every once in awhile. This is not occasional, its systematic. Its not a slip-up either. We didn't trip over a banana peel and assassinate democratically elected south american leaders. These weren't moves to insure our survival, they were moves to weaken our current enemies and spread our power. You make it sound like we only did what we had to do when in reality we did what we wanted because we could and we're paying the price for it now. OPs vid told some ugly truths and yeah there was more to the story but not much more. The other topics people have brought up have told some ugly truths but you don't get to ignore ours by pointing the finger at someone else. Especially when your country is touting itself as a leader and champion of the free world.
If you want to come in here defending America like its no better or worse than any other country than you've got to get your head out of wherever it is. You can't ignore the hypocrisy, the country was founded upon it. You can't point out the faults of others, that doesn't diminish our faults at all. You can't justify the actions taken because they weren't necessary or legal and they caused more problems for the American people than they solved not to mention the rest of the world that thrown into such a shitty state because of it.
Have we done good things, yes, nothing Jstar mentioned because as usual he's just spewing verbal diarrhea, but yeah we've done some good. However this isn't the catholic church and we can't just say 8 hail marys and be forgiven for everything we've done especially when we go out and do it all over again the next day and then tell the rest of the world that we're doing it for their own good while claiming to be a beacon of freedom and liberty. It doesn't work that way. If i wasn't American i'd probably hate this country but its only because i live here and i know the people and i know the history that i love it, it don't like where it is or what its done but like all Americans (and it think its the most American trait about us) i see potential. I can look at our ugly past laugh/cry and then know that we can still go up from there.
Its not about atonement or ignoring its about learning and growing something Americans have always been able to do so don't come in here claiming to support this country by bashing the video or waving fingers somewhere else because when you do that you spit on any potential of us learning or growing and you set us back to the days where we didn't have access to all this information and blindly listened to our gov't. Jefferson said a revolution should happen in this country every 20 years just to remind the gov't that the people are still awake. We've been sleeping for too long and everytime you ignore our past or justify our atrocities you're just pretending to sleep some more. How about no one police the world. You ever thought about that? How about working with your allies without subjugating them, choosing their leaders, arming them, and participating in their wars in other countries. How about promoting commerce, peace, and liberty for all without threat of violence or the use of force? Jeez. You act as if the world needs to be "policed." ****, that comment and all the over zealous uber patriotic rubbish you post just sets me off. Humans in general or just a few individuals that take it upon themselves to rid us of our evils? Does the citizen-soldier start the war or do the men representing him start the war? For what reason do these men start the wars? What are they trying to accomplish? Expansion? Power? Control? And what if the citizen-soldier wants nothing to do with said war? What if the citizen-soldier just wants to live their life without paying for the actions of their so called leaders? How much hate and greed do you have in you, Tasdik?

So your saying we need new/no leaders?
It's human nature to strive to be better then other people. We like to be top dawg. As much as I'd love it if there was no war, no hatred, no violence, no pain, no suffering ect. I don't see that ever happening. Humans will always cause some form of trouble or mischief which will in turn harm some other human, directly or indirectly.

I'm saying X & Y shouldn't make A go after B when it isn't even A & B's problem to begin with.
Abolition of war is impossible - Stop reading into what I'm typing and just read what's there. Whole picture. One can promote liberty & peace without invading a nation in order to bring it liberty, peace, and stabilization. Lead by example - not - force is what I want. War is inevitable as countries grow more powerful, but do you really want to be seen as the aggressor? Violence happens. Small scale disputes happen. I'm talking about promoting these ideals, the ideals of the founding fathers & constitution, without using violence or the threat of violence. Once again: "Lead by example - not - force." The world does not need a world police. We don't need to shove the democratic-republic down everyone's throat at gunpoint.

Yes, I have differing views from you, but talking in a way that suggests that I am the product of the flawed education system/CNN brainwashed is something I won't put up with. Argue, cuss, piss off - I dont care, as long as you get your point across. Just dont try and shit all over someone with that kind of talk. And dont give me that "tldr" crap because you know damn well I'll read every word of anything that is written to insult me.
Sorry. The world isn't what you think it is. Yes, this world needed to be policed. It still does. Its so naive of you to think that world leaders and countries will just hold hands and happily skip to words of peace and prosperity. You seem to have forgotten that we waged and won a Cold War and for a good reason too. We didn't just avert a nuclear war - we prevented this world from ending up like the fucked up cowshit we see going on in North Korea. Now if it doesn't take policing the world from preventing something like that from happening, I dont know what will.
Do you really think everyone on this planet thinks the way you do? Sure, of course world peace and freedom and blah blah all those empty words you say are desirable. If it was even remotely possible, I would also support such a utopian concept. But since the beginning of time, the human race on this planet have not gone a SINGLE DAY without war. Its human nature, and you can't change it. And when douschefags like Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Stalin, Hussein, Tito, Kim, Shwe, Mao, bin Laden, Mugabe show up on the world stage, it takes more than just the talking heads of ambassadors to change things. And when you say you want to promote all those wonderful things without the use of "violence or force", I can only sit and hold my belly button while I laugh. Because thats outrageous, and you should know better.
You really believe the world is capable of living each day the way you wish it to? Someone's been listening to too much of Lennon's "Imagine"
You're like too many Americans and foreigners-who-hate-America out there. Too much of what you have seen of America happened only in the very recent past. You and others keep failing to look beyond that - our history before that, and most importantly, what America still stands for today. Every human being on this planet could hate America and still, ironically, wish to come and live here. And many people already do. I am sure that if we could go back in time and erase the past 8 years out of memory, you and so many others wouldn't be hating on America as much as you are now. I can't believe the corruption and repugnance of the worst presidential administration can so thoroughly offset the past. Its amazing how that now, the words "America" and "Bush" are synonymous.
You and xemnas need to chill out. Chillpill first, then think. Think about the lives America has saved, think about the lives we're still saving, and think about how many nations and people have modeled their governments and societies after our democracy because of its success and wholesomeness. When I read you posts pertaining to anything related to politics, its almost always negative.
Dont get me wrong - Reise is right. There is not a single country out there that has a perfectly clean record, but we're closer to perfection than any other country on this planet. Carrying the burden of international leadership isn't an easy job, and past administrations have made mistakes. We are still making mistakes, but its not healthy or productive to continue to heap mistake after mistake on the guilt list of America and point fingers till our arms fall off.
Come, tell me - of the 200 some countries we have today, tell me who you think would have done a better job at waving around ted's big stick.

I'd have to disagree. The Viking Age was one of the most lawless periods of European history. I'm sure people today don't land on coastal cities and rape/plunder/salt/burn everything in their way.

You, show exactly what the public school system (in the United States) is for. Damn well too. I want to type /rage but every time I read one of your post I just get infuriated. I'm supposed to be tolerant of other people's opinions but it's damn hard when I see someone spewing fascist bullshit and passing it as "good." It doesn't matter who the world police is because there shouldn't be one. It is unnecessary for our government to drag our soldiers into stupid shit that ends up endangering civilian populations.
tl:dr **** your backwards Neo-Con bullshit.
Wow...........i think you are perfect for a FAA job. maybe i will hook you up with a job when you finish school.
I'd have to disagree. The Viking Age was one of the most lawless periods of European history. I'm sure people today don't land on coastal cities and rape/plunder/salt/burn everything in their way.
actually, the japanese did just that during WWII when they invaded china and southeast asia.

more FOX news then CNN, CNN is news for ppl who don't know news. FOX is news for ppl who like fake news...

EL OH F*CKING EL. You really don't get it do you. Name three countries where armed conflict took place during the cold war that is now first world. Name five countries where armed conflict took place that hasn't experienced some type of armed conflict in the past two decades. You realize that vietnam, korea, afganistan, iraq, iran etc...these are all countries we "helped" during the cold war and to this day they still suck ass. That is the American arrogance and ignorance im talking about. Saved the world from what, from who. Whats the difference between the US bombing for you 30 years or the soviets bombing you for 30 years. We didn't avert a nuclear war! We were one of two countries with nukes and the only one who has used one so far. We created the nuclear age and were the first country to show that if when we felt threatened by military power we would use it. No other country has ever made that claim and followed through with it. Going with just the facts we were more likely to launch nuclear missiles at the USSR than the USSR was to launch missles at us. For some reason though you just ignore that, ignore the proxy wars, ignore the countries still at war, ignore the millions of lives lost and just say they're better off. GO TO THOSE COUNTRIES. Stay awhile and listen then you come back and tell me they're doing fine...

You forget Andrew Jackson who ordered genocide. Kennedy who staged coups that led to the Vietnam War. Nixon who ordered the assassination of democratically elected leaders. The Japanese interment camps during WWII. The protest of Vietnam where american soldier shot and killed americans on american soil(kinda like the iraq election protest). Bush who declared and waged an illegal war without the consent of congress(the people) and without proper cause(he knew there were no weapons, was told many times) violating all sorts of international law resulting in the deaths of millions of iraqis and thousands of US troops. This is just a brief history btw, the actions of US leaders are no better or worse than the actions of the leaders you mentioned. So Bin Laden bombed 2 buildings, Bill Clinton ordered 24/7 bombing on a nation, civilian casualites were far greater than ours. Your problem is that you see every act of violence we do as a force of good when in reality its simply an act of violence. We're not a leader, we are a bully who has shown time and time again that we will go to any lengths no matter the casualties to stay on top. We're not building a pyramid out of people, we're clawing over the pile of their dead bodies to sit at the peak...

You are not getting it.
Its not about the past 8 years. Me and barotix are not stupid. YOU are only seeing the past 8 years. YOU are seeing them as the only smear on a hall of fame wall. YOU need to open your eyes.

As the author says many of those ppl we killed and gov'ts we overthrew were democratically elected. The people voted for these leaders and the US did not not like them so we killed them. How is that policing the world. What would you think if the US denied the man you voted into the senate because they didn't like him. What would you say if a country assassinated Bush because he did not suit their interest. You lead by example and this is the example we have been setting. Its not a recent thing this corruption and repugnance. Like i said before its systematic. We do what we want because we can. These assassinations did not help those countries at all, many of them went through decades of war and harsh dictatorships that WE installed. Many of them are still going through war and are under the harsh rule of Warlords that WE armed. It couldn't worse for them. It was the kind of gov't where if you spoke out you disappeared in the night or family and friends were killed. How was good for them. How is that any better than being under soviet influence.

We know our history Ganji, all the good and all the bad. If a child molester raped and killed 18 kids and then rescues a woman from a fire do you suddenly act like he's not a child molester. Do you forgive him for his crimes (which he is not sorry for and would do again) even if he saved 18 women from fires. It does not balance out. I, like the video am just speaking the truth. And just like the video, because its so ugly you can't stand to hear it. For every country that models themselves after us, there are two more than were thrown into turmoil because of us. For every life we have there are 10 more lives who have been made miserable by our actions. This isn't politics Ganji its HISTORY. This isn't about liberal or conservative, democrat or republican this is just the truth. The ugly truth and theres no getting around it, you can't wash away the blood by pointing to something else, stop trying.
Power and military might doesn't make you a leader. It just makes you the guy with the biggest guns. We are so far from perfection its not even funny. Our gov't is corrupt beyond belief, our military is stretched too thin all over the world trying to police all the enemies we've made, our economy and industry is a shell of its former self, our people are statistically unhealthy and uneducated, we are one of the leading polluters in the word...
What about us is close to perfection. I can name 10 countries that are healthier, more satisfied with their gov't, more educated, have better environmental care, and are more economically sound on average than us. Japan, Sweden, Singapore, New Zealand, Germany, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, Chile, and Hong Kong. The age of US supremacy is over, we are holding on with our military might alone. Other than that we have nothing on these places. The "burden of international leadership." Really. The first thing that came to mind was "The White Mans Burden" the idea that the world was a savage place and only white people had the right idea how to run things and that it their duty to show the world just how wrong they were even if it meant killing or slavery, it was just something they had to do no matter how unpleasant. Don't get me wrong we've come a long way from then in most areas but its the same ignorant arrogance now applied to a country instead of a race. It wasn't true before and its not true now. No one wants us to be international leaders, we're forcing ourselves down their throats, choking them, then saying its for their own good.
Come, tell me - of the 200 some countries we have today, tell me who you think would have done a better job at waving around ted's big stick.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. No one nation should be waving around a big stick over all the other nations. Thats not freedom, its oppression. Your question is really asking would you rather have our oppression or someone elses and while to you our oppression may be great to the people in Iraq that were killed by the Saddam regime we supported and helped to power, they don't think its so good. Oppression should not exist in any form it just represses and we see the results today. NK has nuclear weapons, Iraq may be trying to get them, Terrorist in Pakistan are about to control a nation who has them. These are not isolated incident, these are the effects of the things we have caused. Learn from your mistakes and stop trying to hold a cock waving contest with the rest of the world, that attitude is what started all this and its not going to solve it.
