Ignoring gaige's story.

The only thing that's happening, is that more and more music is becoming DRM free. (DRM = Digital rights management). This is a good change.

However could result in massive amounts more MP3's on torrents etc.

Apple is starting to counter that (Istore) by implementing the buyers data IN the file. e.g. name and E-mail adress.

Think more company's will start to use that method.

I think if people want people to buy their music. They should make it easily accessible. Now you might say, but it from iTunes. Why should I buy it from iTunes for .99 cents each when I can get it for free.

I don't know how record companies make money anymore, I really don't. I remember when MP3 download music had just become available and I found myself paying $20+ for an album, which I then had to download and blah blah. I just get it for free now, a long with 90% of the world. I would support music companies if they supported people, as such.

everyone of my songs I have ripped from a cd which i have purchased myself at my local jb-hi-fi store ( i get a discount because im there a lot, it kicks ass ). Parden me good sir, I salute you for you're patronage to your local music store and your life time of honesty(?). Very noble indeed. But I have to disagree. Not everyone pirates JUST music btw. Not everyone can afford Cd's, lets say they like ALOT of bands. I remeber buying CD's and only liking one song on them then thinking how I wasted money. Essentials could be FOOD and college TUITION and BOOKS maybe? Are you gonna turn this into a "pirating is unlegit" kinda thing? You're basically fighting a war against bots. You will lose.

And what of those rare, old or foreign hard to find CD's that you can only find in torrents? You just don't download them because you think it's wrong? Some Foreign CD's are $70-$80 and can only be bought overseas.

Whats pirating doing to musicians? They are still rich, they are still making new music.

I'm selfish and don't give a damn. Sorry.

$10 a week isn't a problem. I don't feel like buying a CD for each song I like. I have something like 40,000 songs in my library. Each downloaded which me and my friends then put on harddrives and send to eachother. It's the ease and simplicity of being able to download something free of charge and hassles. Sure I feel sorry for someone cause somewhere down the line someone is losing money, but so would we if we spent $1 on each song we downloaded. That would mean I paid $40,000 for music, fcuk that!

But do they really need all of those songs? Why cant someone live without them? If im struggling for cash ( although its kinda rare, i save a fair bit even though im a student with studying fees and car bills just like everyone else ) than i simply go without if i have to. Do we honestly need 3 hard drives dedicated to music? or movies? Why can't we simply live with what we cant afford?

To satisfy the argument I'll say that it's my opinion.

Music does many different things for different people. It can inspire creativity, help someone drown out real life issues, even put someone's crappy day on the upside. Music is a very important part of life. Some would say...it's essential to have it.

The popularity of pirating stuff is, for the most part, convenience. It takes a lot less effort to open a program and start downloading stuff than to drive to your local record store and purchase the album you wanted. It's also why online music stores are becoming very popular. You have the ease of downloading music and it's legal because you bought it. There are also those bands like Nine Inch Nails who have decided to give the people the option to get their albums for free or pay for it. A lot of people pay more than the album's retail value ($50+) so it's pretty good on both ends.

If I really like an artist, I will buy their album. But most of the time I head over to my favorite private tracker ♥ and download the album in about 2 minutes. As a matter of fact, using private trackers has encouraged me to buy more music. It's such a pain to keep a good sharing ratio sometimes so I like to stop at random garage sales and look for cheap CDs. I go home and rip the CD and start sharing it at what.cd.

I pay for my music because I actually support the effort that the band made when making their music. If you say .99 cents is to expensive for a song, then I dont know. I can't see myself constantly buying music, when half the time you will listen to it for a couple of days and then sit in your library until it comes up on shuffle. If you want to listen to the music you like for free, there are other options than doing it illegally.

The drummer from Metalica was hoping to get a gold plated shark tank bar next to his big pool, but thanks to ppl downloading his music for free, he'll have to wait a lil longer before he can get it.

Britney Spears had a gulfstream 4 Private Jet, but thanks to ppl like you she had to sell it and get a gulfstream 3! The gulfstream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound theater system!
