True that!
Maybe they can take Spain and after that we facefuck them all over again.

I think our B lineup should not be underestimated. Portugal's B lineup was crap, but most of our B lineup players have proven to be valuable assets already (Huntelaar for example).

lol u won 2 matches and you use the term "facefuck"?

Seriously, if Holland lets France/Italy qualify,it would be their biggest mistake ever.If you look at the past European and World Cup championships, both France and Italy have always had a hard time in the group qualifications. After that, they have made it at least in the semi-finals. I hope Holland does this mistake :D

Gosh sometimes you'll see matches which aren't worth anything. For example Germany vs Austria. Most exciting was sending off both coaches.

Quarterfinal Portugal - Germany seems promising to me but the way the Germans play (apart from Podolski and Lahm) I don't give a dime for their chances. On the other hand wasn't it Lineker who once said: "Football is easy, you have 22 players, the game lasts 90 minutes and in the end Germany wins" (or something along that line).

And regarding tonights match, I seriously doubt that van Basten even considers to lose from Romania in order to avoid Italy and or France in the semifinals. Hah, first you'll have to win the quarterfinal anyway and Italy / France have to cope with Spain.

I'm gonna bake something to kill some time, any suggestions?
I made an olivebread yesterday, but today I am leaning towards muffins or something of the like.

Can't wait to see tonight's match.

Our b-line-up might not be as good the main team, but like has been said, they are not to be underestimated.

Question: I'm not a football freak so i'm not entirely familiar with the whole championship tournament.
What happens if they win? I saw something about Italy/France qualifying?
That's due to the points we let Romania take, right?
Any info appreciated :D

Win = 3 point
Draw = 1 point
Lost = 0 point

Holland is now top of the group with 6 points and Romania with 2 points, both Italy and France have 1 point each. Work some math out and you'll notice that the outcome of Holland vs Romania match will determine if both Italy and France have a chance to qualify at all.

if Holland wins, they both have a chance to qualify: whoever wins is through then.
But if they draw, the goal difference will decide who is through.
If holland beats Romania 3:0 all will be equal
if higher, France or Italy is through.

If Holland draws or loses, Romania is through(if neither France nor Italy wins)

all is open :D
and i'm for France, Italy might be a good team, but they were too lucky at the World Cup 2006

If romania win, Italy and France both go out.

Van Basten is quoted as saying holland will be playing for a win. Robben will be starting.

Spoiler!

Holland will definetely win the game. They will start with 8 new players in the line up, but those players are top notch as well. Only players to fear from Romania are Mutu (but he missed penalties ^_^) and Chivu.

Trice wrote:He and Donadoni are good friends, so hopefully thats even more of a reason for them to batter the romanians

Hehe Dutch newspaper say coach Piturca is afraid of Van Basten.
He was supporter of Steaua Boekarest back in 1989 during Europe cup I final between AC Milan and Boekarest xd
Guess who scored for Milan (4-0)
- Van Basten 2x
- Ruud Gullit 2x

:D

Edit: for Dutch people check this link to see which team (FR, IT, RO) will go through at what scenario (sorry non-Dutch I cba to translate all, maybe someone else wants to do it)

Correct, also Italy has a chance of advancing with a tie if it's a tie higher than 1-1, if Holland wins from Romania that is.
France's only chance is winning against Italy and praying we beat/draw Romania.

I don't think there can be a penalty shootout because with a tie between France and Italy ,which would be needed, there can be no even Goal saldo I believe. (Matches also take place at the same time, so France and Italy would have to tie and then hear what Romania - Holland was and then advance into penalties.)
I might be mistaken, and if I am the chances are extremely slim to say the least anyways.

This is all wrong if advancement is only judged by points and not goals, which I am not sure of.

Smart thing to do for the sake of the tournament is to let Romania win.

GROUP C PERMUTATIONS

The Netherlands have won Group C and will play the Group D runners-up in the quarter-finals.

Romania will qualify for the quarter-finals if they beat the Netherlands, eliminating France and Italy.

If Romania fail to beat the Netherlands, the winner of France v Italy will go through.

If France and Italy draw, a point against the Netherlands would be enough to send Romania through. France must win to have any chance of qualifying.

If France and Italy share a score draw (1-1, 2-2, 3-3 etc), Italy will go through if Romania lose (by any score). In this scenario, Italy, Romania and France will be level on two points each but Italy would have scored more goals in games between the 3 teams.

Romania will finish bottom of the group if they lose and France and Italy draw 2-2, 3-3 or 4-4. France will finish bottom if they draw 1-1 unless Romania lose 3-0 or by a four-goal margin.

606: DEBATE
Who will qualify from Group C?
If France and Italy draw 0-0, Romania can lose by one goal, two goals or by a three-goal margin other than 3-0 but still qualify. In this scenario, Italy and Romania would have identical head-to-head records, but Romania would have better goal difference in ALL group matches or, in the case of the three-goal defeats, goals scored. France would finish bottom, having scored fewer goals head-to-head v Italy and Romania.

If Romania lose 3-0 to the Dutch, Italy would qualify with a 0-0 draw against France because of their superior coefficient points. France would finish bottom as they would have scored fewer goals head-to-head v Italy and Romania.

If Romania lose by four goals or more and the other game ends 0-0, Italy would proceed with a better overall goal difference than Romania. France would finish bottom as they would have scored fewer goals head-to-head v Italy and Romania.

If France and Italy draw AND Romania avoid defeat, then Romania go through.

Hmm that clears it up(a bit), thanks guys.

Damn I used to be the only one who could calculate all this stuff back when I still played football (soccer for you Americans). Now I still don't quite get the way it's calculated.

Oh well, either way, today is going to be just for fun.
Their through and that's what really matters tbh.
Although it does kinda make sense, it might be better if they lose against Romania..

Anyway, down to the pub. Later guys enjoy the match :D
