if you're gonna go by the best goalkeeper determined by the UEFA since 2005, Petr Cech has won it twice in 05 and 07.

lehmann won it in 06 from germany.

buffon last won it in 03, when he became the highest payed goalkeeper in history, that was in his prime, he's going down now and van der sar and cech are easily better.

he won best keeper in the world cup, but then again italy won the world cup so it was a pretty easy decision.

id rank him top 3 or second best, he's not the greatest anymore though  hes oldddd

I don't disagree, I think Van de Saar is better than Buffon. I'm not going to look at how many goals they conceded because that relies on their defence. I don't think Van de Saar conceded more goals than Buffon, but again I am unsure about that. But from what I've seen from Van de Saar so far, I think he is simply better because he saves a lot and has great estimation. He only catches balls only that are only heading into the goal. He simply avoids touching the balls that doesn't go into the goal and he did that very precisely even when the ball is just few inches from the post. On the other hand, I've seen Buffon diving to catch balls that weren't on target at first place, and that shows he doesn't have as much experience.

Don't know if I explained well enough, but I tried. :P

Van der Sar is by far the best keeper of this tournament. Check first half vs Italy and his saves, any other keeper (read: Czech & Buffon) would've most definitely not have made those saves.
Also Buffon and Czech can't really be nominated for best keeper after their bloopers. Buffon threw a defender behind his goal after they bumped into eachother making sure there could be no offside and Czech, well.. if you have seen Turkey - Czech Republik there's no explanation needed.

If he didn't do that then it would've been offside so yeah, his bad.
Well written reply tbh, nice feedback, modworthy response!

How can you imply that Buffon threw him? They bumped, and Buffon had to hurry to his position. You expected him to lend him a hand when the ball was in goal zone?

And btw, Van der Sar got good only after he moved to MU. When he played for Juventus he was total shit.

i give feedback to posts that deserve it.
badly thought out posts with no discernable intellectual content, with argument made from a tabloid newspaper are flammable.

But since you insist.
Buffon collided with a dutch player and his own defender whilst dealing with an incoming cross. Something that happens a lot during a crowded box. But the defender fell awkward or was clattered awkwardly and fell over off the pitch. Watching the video, its obviously not his intention to lie there, nor is it Buffon's to injure him.

Your post implies that Buffon threw him off the pitch. Be it on purpose or by accident, he clearly didnt. Its just one of those things that happens. It has no relevance to Buffon's goalkeeping ability. As for that offside nonsense, none of those players were aware that a player injured and not interfering in play could still play another player onside, as can be seen by the reaction of Ruud. He looks at the linesman expecting offside. In a postmatch interview, Dirk Kuyt stated that he thought it was offside, as clearly, the Italians did.

So yeah, when i say Epic Fail, i have good reason.

thats harsh, even though it is true that Buffon had to intervene with the cross and eventually clash with his own man.

woutR just uses a wrong verb (threw instead of clash) and its an epic fail?
Thats exaggerated.

Sh!t happens, but every world class player who has played at least 5 years has had one of those moments that make a game more interesting.
(C.Ronaldo's penalty against Chelsea for example)

doesnt matter what verb is used, the ruud goal isnt a buffon blooper. its just something that happens, the turkey goal IS a blooper, coz cech didnt catch it like he should have.

Seriously, didn't expect such a weak Germany. They were very unorganized, wouldn't understand each other, they looked like they didn't know what to do with the ball. If it was another team instead of Austria they would had lost.
